You can tell a lot by a person's mailbox. Eight years ago, our Pasty Cam photographer spotted this fisherman's statement alongside the road. Wonder if anyone has a pasty-shaped mailbox?

July 1 is Pasty Fest, with a parade in downtown Calumet at 10 am and pasty-eating starting in Agassiz Park at 11. The first 500 guests receive a free pasty.

And, don't forget, the voting is still open for the 2007 Pasty Cam Calendar. Just navigate to your favorite photo from the last eight years, copy and paste the URL in an email and send it to 2007Calendar@pasty.com.

Nice, Gormfrog! Guess I'm "richer" then!

Not much happy humming in the pasture this morning. Llamas don't care for warm weather.
Happy summer all!
My mailbox bears the distictive dent of our local "baseball bat road warriors". Hmmmm, wonder what that says...?

Enjoy the day everyone.

Do llamas really hum?
Now you've got me curious!

By lz (Llamamama) on Thursday, June 22, 2006 - 08:44 am:

moi, hum they do! There hums differ for content, distress, Momma to baby. Their vocalizations are all pretty quiet.

By moi (Moi) on Thursday, June 22, 2006 - 08:53 am:

How neat!
I guess all I know about them is what they look like, and that the crossword puzzle clue for them is "pack animals".
Maybe if you played a song nearby, they'd learn to hum a tune! : )

There's a farm by us that has about 10-15 llamas. I can't imagine they are very happy llamas living in Houston with all the heat/humidity down here.

Sounds to me lz you may have Mad Max living on your road, or at least the gangs looking for the juice, the precious juice!!! lol.........

Anybody have any information on the power outage throughout the Western UP and Keweenaw yesterday evening?

We were visiting some friends on campus at MTU yesterday shortly before 5 when the power went down. Left town about 8 or so and things were still dark. Got word and/or saw that the power was out from Baraga through at least Eagle River. Had to get gas at Lutes in L'Anse - the only place we had heard was still able to pump. Good thing too - probably didn't have enough to get back to Gwinn for the night.

Anyhow - I'd be interested to hear the story if anybody knows it. Feel free to drop me an e-mail:

Thanks!

Mel, the local radio station news reports trees on the line in two different locations in Ishpeming area. Used a helocopter flyover to find it. Power out in some areas for 6 hours. My house was only out about 2 hours, supplied backup power from the station in South Range.

Seems every month in the summer when we come UP to our cottage, the clocks are off. I usually don't leave anything perishable in the fridge, but this time I do have eggs there!

BridgeCam is still stuck on sometime yesterday afternoon; I'm assuming the cause is the power outage.
