Margo (Margo) on Saturday, June 10, 2006 - 07:46 am:

Good Morning from Adrian.
First Post

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Saturday, June 10, 2006 - 08:44 am:

Good morning everyone, as I sit here coffee tightly clutched (someone might take it) in my hands all I can think of is " Let the games begin". Thanks for the description of poutine Laurie, sounds pretty darn artey clogging, therefore it must be delicious. Looking forward to another fun-filled day of planting trees and listening to my wife cheerfully ask "Why is it so @%$#*&% cold now that the pool is ready?" Have a great day all.
Mr. Deb

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Saturday, June 10, 2006 - 09:06 am:

I see my hubby has to complain about me already this morning. I would never complain, I just state obvious facts. The pool is ready, therefore it's freezing outside. You'd think it was March or April rather than June 10th. OOPS, it's my mom's birthday. Sorry everyone. Have to go and call her. Have a great day. I'm sure I'll see you again later.

By Tim in Oscoda (Timmer280) on Saturday, June 10, 2006 - 09:40 am:

If todays post was just done at 9:35...how is the early bird being awarded at 7:46? I've been here updating since 8am waiting for today's post??? I'm confused...

By Paul Oesterle (Paulwebbtroll) on Saturday, June 10, 2006 - 09:55 am:

Hey Tim! Welcome to the club! Good morning everyone.

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Saturday, June 10, 2006 - 09:57 am:

Tim, You just never know about this early bird thing. There are days when I'm on before 6 and still don't get the early bird because somebody who got on at 7:30 gets it. Whatever. Try again tomorrow.

By Tim in Oscoda (Timmer280) on Saturday, June 10, 2006 - 10:01 am:

I'm not talking about the early bird...just wondering why I didn't get the posting til 9:30 but others seem to be getting it earlier...just wondered if my puter is acting up or something...

By Tim in Oscoda (Timmer280) on Saturday, June 10, 2006 - 10:02 am:

When I say posting...I'm talking about the picture of the day...not when other pastycammers are posting...

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Saturday, June 10, 2006 - 10:17 am:

Yeah, I knew you meant the picture of the day. I can't figure out how that works either. Maybe somebody can explain it to us.

By Randall Ollila (Rwolli) on Saturday, June 10, 2006 - 10:28 am:

Deb & Mr Deb-
Check yesterdays posting of whats up. There are some more of todays postings before the picture change.

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Saturday, June 10, 2006 - 10:40 am:

Randall, Thanks!

By Michael Du Long (Mikie) on Saturday, June 10, 2006 - 10:45 am:

So Gus is a name in the running, I think that Debs parents should name him since they are the Yooper parents. I have to go to a wedding today, the rich side of the family. If they are so wealthy why do we have to stand outside while they get married. My kids were all married inside a church. Not in a public park. I guess Precious and her brother have different ideas.

By Michael Du Long (Mikie) on Saturday, June 10, 2006 - 10:48 am:

I can see a park with some beauty but this has none, it is next to an old house. It would be nice out next to the Lake or by a waterfall. But in the city next to a house. Can't see it.

By Margaret, Amarillo TX (Margaret) on Saturday, June 10, 2006 - 11:17 am:

I love this shot. We don't have that many trees in one place here in the panhandle

By WishingIWasInDaUP (Sur5er) on Saturday, June 10, 2006 - 01:18 pm:

Good morning everyone :) Was up all night painting the base coast in the spare bedroom. Am bound and determined to get as much of the painting done before I head home to Michigan, as I can. 29 days until I am in Michigan :)

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Saturday, June 10, 2006 - 03:13 pm:

Poutine and a 'blue' is Dr. Nat's and my all-time favorite during hockey games. You hit the nail on the head Laurie....... heart attack on a plate. However, it is said that Canadians live 2.5 years longer than Americans; maybe it's because they are "well petrified" from all that great food!! ;-)

Greetings Pasty Cammers--

I'm in the LP visiting with my dad. Once again I am going to try to set up a way for him to use this site. Hope it works.

By Suzy Lofquist (Suzymn41) on Saturday, June 10, 2006 - 04:04 pm:

Thanks for posting that great picture of the ROAD.Soon I will be going down that road again and it will bring me to reality.

By Laurie B. (Ratherberiding) on Saturday, June 10, 2006 - 07:03 pm:

I wish I would have thought of a Stormy Kromer as the proper hat for a proper Yooper!
As for a name, how 'bout Pete, or maybe something having to do with Mr. Deb's ancestry? Is he Swedish? We could call him "Swede". Deb, did your Dad think up anything clever?

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Saturday, June 10, 2006 - 08:34 pm:

Laurie, Mr. Deb is not Swede. He is mostly Norwegian. And when talking with my parents today I completely forgot to mention that they need to pick out a name for him for this Yooper thing. My dad will be quick to say, "I've got a name for him alright". You know how he is about as well as I do. Even though they love him to death. And Mr. Deb wants to know what in the world a Stormy Kromer is because I don't know either.

Sur5er, I LOVE potato soup. It's cold enough here for that. I should make some. I could make Wild Rice too. I also love that stuff. I like peasoup too. Have lots of containers in the freezer cuz Mr. Deb thinks it looks like baby poop so it's all mine (unless my 7 year old grandson comes over, he loves it too). Mr. Deb will NOT touch the stuff. I made him try it one day cuz I told him that mine is deliciously loaded with ham. He gagged so much he nearly vomited. I, of course, thought that was hilarious which in turn made him mad. Oh well, it's fun to be me. And where in MI is "home"?

Kosk, Hope you're enjoying being in MI. I'm sure you'd rather be in Ishpeming with your daughter, eh? Or maybe she's there too. Still think about your son by the way. I haven't forgotten about him. I hope he's safe. Here's hoping you get your dad set up with a nice name like "Kosk's dad" or something. It isn't any worse than "Mr. Deb".

By C.C. (Clevelandcliffs) on Saturday, June 10, 2006 - 08:52 pm:

Wishing I was up there now(especially after I read these posts),but in a few weeks,I hope to make it up there to be at Engineers' Day at the Soo(btw-come on into the Boatnerd Chat Room tomorrow night(around 7 or so EDT(+/-))( http://www.boatnerd.com/chat );usually a yooper from the Gwinn area and one(maybe two)from the DeTour Village area check in,so come on in and check it out! CC

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Saturday, June 10, 2006 - 09:03 pm:

Capt. Paul,
Well, I don't have poutine and Blue tonite. But, I have something almost as good I think, homemade popcorn cooked in grease, in a pan, on the stove and a Leinies. Oh yeah, and the cup finals on the tube. Thats livin eh?
Laurie, do you really think its a good idea for Debs dad to come up with a name? I can hear it now, "How about that dang tourist?"
Wonderful MN day, cloudy and 55.

By WishingIWasInDaUP (Sur5er) on Saturday, June 10, 2006 - 09:27 pm:

Mr Deb doesn't know what a stormy kromer is. Hang on...huddle time now with Mikie, because a true Yooper must know what a kromer is ;)

Check it out at Pasty.com sponsor: Stormy Kromer hats

By Laurie B. (Ratherberiding) on Saturday, June 10, 2006 - 09:28 pm:

Forgot about pea soup too! I'm going to make it for my daugher who, along with her husband, will be here on Tuesday. These two are going to make me a grandma in December!
It's kinda risky having Deb's Dad choose the name. But then again, it could be interesting too.
Go to stormykromer.com to see the hats. They're made in Ironwood.
What kind of Leinies? Not that I like it but I know someone who does!

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Saturday, June 10, 2006 - 11:00 pm:

That would be Honeyweiss. Pea soup????????????? Anything that looks like it should be tossed with the diapers can not be safe to eat.

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Saturday, June 10, 2006 - 11:06 pm:

I have a hat that is almost like a Stormy, only the earlappers tie on top. It is in blaze orange however.

By Michael Du Long (Mikie) on Saturday, June 10, 2006 - 11:28 pm:

I have survived the wedding and enjoyed having all the grandkids around. My one niece from Charlotte has two boys who she thinks are little stinkers, I found them and thier sister to be absolutly delightfull. They are pollite and very friendly. Can't ask for more then that from a kid. The kids all had fun, and I enjoyed watching them interact. The wedding was at The Dodge estate by Oakland U.,outside and very pretty. Dinner was nondescript, very boring. Had my annual beer and thought of y'all, sure miss being home. Haven't had a Kromer for years, I have a bomber hat with real rabbit fur on the ear muffs. My mom bought it for me years ago still love it.

By Susan Caryl (Gilbsulmum) on Sunday, June 11, 2006 - 01:00 am:

Mikie...you make me more homesick than usual...not only to I miss the UP, but attended Oakland and went to dances at the Dodge estate. Also, my paternal grandfather helped build it...known as the Dodge-Wilson estate way back then, around 1919, I think.

By Erica - Florida Keys (Erica) on Sunday, June 11, 2006 - 09:21 am:

Good morning...rainy down here and we need it. Have a nice day, today.

By Margaret, Amarillo TX (Margaret) on Sunday, June 11, 2006 - 09:28 am:

You and me Erica: the only ones up today. Sun shining again.

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Sunday, June 11, 2006 - 09:30 am:

Excuse me, Margaret. Margo and I have been on for over an hour waiting for everybody to get up. Morning to you too.

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Sunday, June 11, 2006 - 09:34 am:

Okay, Laurie and Mikie and whoever else. I talked with my parents today, and the names my dad came up with for Mr. Deb cannot be typed on this site. lol I told you that would happen. He's thinking though. I, personally, think that's a scary thing for Mr. Deb.

By kathie Murto (Murtomania) on Sunday, June 11, 2006 - 10:40 am:

morning all. It is a little bit chilly here in Rochester Hills, what it the weather in the UP today?

By Michael Du Long (Mikie) on Sunday, June 11, 2006 - 10:47 am:

Amen Dave it is cold this morning Precious had a little too much Merlot last night and hasn't risen yet.The sun is bright and it looks beautiful outside, but it is cold. Jimmie the fat white cat is not up yet either. Seems they can't take the late hours. Has anyone started the sil bashing yet? I hear someone, probably the cat roaming around. It seems everyone in my wifes family is a millionare but her niece with the nice kids, and us. It must be nice to be rich, and not good looking, unfortunatly I missed both.

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Sunday, June 11, 2006 - 12:04 pm:

Okay Dave. Exactly how cold is it in good old Wisconsin? The temperature here in MN is all the way up to 56 now. My silly grandkids were out running in the grass without socks & shoes. Kids!!! It looks like rain again so I guess I'll get some ironing done. Unless anybody else wants to volunteer that is. I actually have a friend who LIKES to iron. How dumb is that?

Mikie, It doesn't take money to be happy, thankfully. Lord knows I don't have any. But we make things work and have what we need. Maybe we don't have everything we want, but we do have what we need. Maybe you'd be conceited if you were rich. Many of them are you know. I like you just the way you are.

By C.C. (Clevelandcliffs) on Sunday, June 11, 2006 - 12:12 pm:

64 down here in Metro detroit Deb;of course if I had more money than I had now,I definetly wouldn't be a 'troll' any more lol! CC

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Sunday, June 11, 2006 - 12:16 pm:

No kidding, C.C. I'd be living on the shores of Gitchee Gumee (at least during the nice months).

By C.C. (Clevelandcliffs) on Sunday, June 11, 2006 - 12:25 pm:

As I mentioned before Deb(and everyone else),don't forget about the Boatnerd Chat Room tonight(typically between 7&8(+/-))and about Engineers' Day at the Soo June 30th;I'm sure everyone(or most)here is a 'boatnerd' at heart LOL! I definetly love talking about the boats(coun't figure that out I bet LOL!)(btw--check this link out: http://www.mrs-captains-place.150m.com/ great link!)CC

By Michael Du Long (Mikie) on Sunday, June 11, 2006 - 12:42 pm:

Deb, As I have said before, I am the richest man in the world with the childeren, grandchilderen, friends, and family. Wealth is more then just having money, I wouldn't trade one of the above for all the money in the world. But now that I think of it I might trade off one brother for a few bucks. He wouldn't get much in the open market. He and his wife are not the nicest people in the world. I love getting up in the late morning and watch the birds, I have twelve bird houses in my yard that I have made for the feathery friends of mine. In spring I set out string and long dried grass for them to make their nest. Everyone of my bird houses have tenants as well as some of the eaves in this old house. The birds are like me not the prettiest but are loyal. Take care of the birds but am waging war on the chipmunks. Catch them in a live trap then take them to the park, or the cemetery to turn them loose. Precious finally has gotten up and is now making herself a cup of coffee. In about an hour I will try to make conversation with her. Merlot does not treat one as well as daquiries do.

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Sunday, June 11, 2006 - 01:16 pm:

Hey Mikie, Beauty is in the eye of the beholder! I'm betting you're one of the most beautiful men on the inside. It sure sounds that way, anyway. You sound like one of the best husbands, fathers and grandfathers that I have ever met. I hope you get to go and spend a lot of time in Hubbell. I think then you would be complete.

Hubby also has a brother he'd trade off. I don't even think he'd ask for anything for him (not that he'd be able to get anything). He also has the sil from h---. Every time he says YOUR sil, I have to correct him by saying she's all his. I'm only related to her through him. Of course, he's only related to her through his brother but that's why she's HIS sil. It's HIS brother, not mine. I think they named the song "Witchy Woman" after her.

We don't have much trouble with chipmunks but those squirrels really get my goat. I've become a great shot with a .22. They knock down the bird feeders and bust them and eat all of the food. We're overrun by the little varmints. It's to the point where I can't even stand to look at them. The chipmunks I can stand, they're almost friendly. But those squirrels are awful.

By WishingIWasInDaUP (Sur5er) on Sunday, June 11, 2006 - 02:24 pm:

Regarding SIL's...well things are heating up here on the homefront ;) I emailed sil back and just simply told her that I thought her Michiganner jokes were a litle out of line and I would appreciate if she didn't email me these type of 'put downs and insults' in the future.
In return, sil sent me a very nasty email to put me in my place...which she emailed to everyone in the family. I guess that sil believes that Michiganners are open season in her book. At that point, hubby got into the act and emailed his sister and questioned her emails. So far sil has remained quiet...either that, or she is busy looking up jokes about brothers who marry a Michiganner.

Deb, oh please spill the beans on Witchy Woman sil ;)
