Back on June 9th, we featured a fishing trip on a hazy Bootjack morning. Those shots inspired Robert Wetton (RCW), to send me today's photo of a Bootjack sunrise, minus the haze. Now if this isn't just a slice of heaven here on Earth. Imagine sipping your morning tea (sorry, I'm not a coffee drinker!) and watching this scene unfold before your eyes. After receiving the photo, I emailed RCW and asked if I could move in with him and Shirl, so I could enjoy mornings like this, too. He replied that he'd have to ask the boss. Still haven't heard what she had to say about it, so I guess I'll just have to enjoy the photos like the rest of you! :->

I have a beautiful picture of a Lake Superior sunset up by Copper Harbor Mary. I should send it to you. It's absolutely gorgeous. But then what picture of the lake isn't?

By Margo (Margo) on Monday, June 19, 2006 - 07:19 am:

What a beautiful view. Imagine awakening every morning to a landscape like this.

By kosk in Toronto (Koskintoronto) on Monday, June 19, 2006 - 08:01 am:

Ah, the LAKE. I don't think there could be a
bad picture of it. Soon I'll be running down to
the shore and scooping up some of its water
to pour on my head. Then I'm truly home.

By RCW (Rcw) on Monday, June 19, 2006 - 08:41 am:

No reply on my end either Mary!!!!!!

By Mary Lou Curtin (Marylou) on Monday, June 19, 2006 - 08:42 am:

RCW...June 9th was my father's birthday..we always celebrated it on the gazebo at Bootjack, a mile down the lake from you......I miss those lovely mornings (and my wonderful father...) time manages to steal a lot of wonderful things....but there are still corners of my heart in which they reside.....thanks for the memory...

By anna swiniuchowski (Abswini) on Monday, June 19, 2006 - 09:21 am:

R.R. - thought that scene looked familiar. My family was friends with the Keskatellos (fathers worked together YEARS ago)and we spent some memorable times together. Nothing like a dip in the water after a relaxing time in their sauna.

By Brita Haapala (Britach) on Monday, June 19, 2006 - 09:23 am:

My birthday is on June 9th too! I turned 30 this year. And, like the rest of you, I'm very fond of Bootjack.

Wishing I was in Bootjack!!
Great photo.

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Monday, June 19, 2006 - 09:39 am:

I wish the sky was that clear here this morning!! Beautiful shot; makes me wish I was in a boat out there wetting a line or 2....

By Cotton (Cotton) on Monday, June 19, 2006 - 09:59 am:

Picture rerminds me of the song "Sittin On The Dock Of The Bay". I'd like to be doing that right now drinking my morning coffee.

By Mary Lou Curtin (Marylou) on Monday, June 19, 2006 - 10:31 am:

Brita....My Father, Fredick Adolf Studer.(Fritzy).was born in Lake Linden..June 9, 1895.....guess that makes him a whole lot older than you..lets see he would be 111....hard to believe...he was so much fun and loved the family place at Bootjack..he bought it in 1946 when he retired back "home" after retiring from the Kenoshsa Police Dept....he had "Studer's German Band".......lots of great parties at the "camp" with that band!!!...He loved his family (especially his grand-kids), dogs, music, Bootjack and FUN (especially the 4th of July).....he was generous and kind..talented and wise....and he would have loved the pictures of your kids.....

By Fran in GA (Francesinga) on Monday, June 19, 2006 - 10:47 am:

Oh gosh RCW, that is so beautiful! I knew it was a picture of yours right away. Maybe one day I can join you and Shirl for a cup of coffee out there.

By Julia (Julia) on Monday, June 19, 2006 - 11:49 am:

I would like to get up early some morning to get some cool picures like this one:)

By Kathyrn Laughlin (Kathyl) on Monday, June 19, 2006 - 01:04 pm:

Hey, if you HAD to be awake at sunrise, you'd definitely want to have some pretty scenery to ease the pain. However, I confess I prefer sunsets. The piece of Lake Huron shoreline we're on points northwest, so in the summer, when the sun sets north of true west, we get some beauties out over the water. Sitting by a beachfire, watching the sun set and the stars come out, and maybe a big freighter lit up like a Christmas tree cruises by...

By Mary Lou Curtin (Marylou) on Monday, June 19, 2006 - 01:27 pm:

RCW..Guess you'll have to post a beautiful sunset at Bootjack......those sunsets are to die for.....and seem to go on forever and ever....past my bedtime anyhow......nothing in the world can beat a sunset at Bootjack.....

Mary says: As a matter of fact RCW has just what you're requesting in his gallery right now. Click on over to it here: Bootjack sunset

Re: The "Keskatellos" in bootjack...
Are you sure that wasn't the Keskitalos?

By eugenia r. thompson (Ert) on Monday, June 19, 2006 - 07:12 pm:

Excitement on BridgeCam currently -- lots of fire trucks and one spraying water over the canal.

By Stewart Keskitalo (Skeskitalo) on Monday, June 19, 2006 - 07:14 pm:

As a boy I loved getting out on the lake early when it was calm just as the sun was rising. It was beautiful. I would fish until the breeze picked up and call it day. Then it was time to explore the shoreline and look at the flowers, rocks, minnows, and then at night a sauna. As Wally and Lynn Keskitalos kids we had a charmed childhood. Stew

By Ms. Katie (Mskatie) on Monday, June 19, 2006 - 07:23 pm:

LOL........Drive to Lake Linden and turn left..

By 69 TOOT (Flyindamooney) on Monday, June 19, 2006 - 09:42 pm:

or right depending on your orientation.....look for Bootjack Road.......easy to find.......

By FRNash/PHX, AZ (Frnash) on Monday, June 19, 2006 - 09:44 pm:

Ms. Katie (Mskatie):
"Where exactly is Bootjack?"

That has always been a bit ambiguous to me, generally that name seems to apply to the north and east shore of Torch Lake (beyond the Lake Linden village limits) along Bootjack Rd (CR-641) down to at least Dreamland. (Once you pass Dreamland, CR-641 appears to be called Jacobsville Rd, for whatever that may be worth.)

So does "Bootjack" include the eastern shore of Torch Bay in Portage Lake? White City, Jacobsville, Rabbit Bay, Rice Lake? All of Torch Lake Twp? At least part (the south end) of Schoolcraft Twp?

That's the part that's unclear to me. Maybe RCW can clear it up.

By RCW (Rcw) on Monday, June 19, 2006 - 10:06 pm:

I guess I would consider Bootjack all the way from the Rice lake road to the area where the Lower Entry starts. This would have been a good question to ask my dad who passed away at an age 100 years. He had been coming here when it was a two rut road!!

By Russell E. Emmons (Russemmons) on Monday, June 19, 2006 - 11:02 pm:

Hey RCW! You just might see us in 12 days!! Really--! & We like coffee! Haven't been to Bootjack OR Dollar Bay in 20 years! Some people up there might pass out to see us pull in their drive!! What more can I say? :)

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Monday, June 19, 2006 - 11:10 pm:

The real question is..... HOW did Bootjack gets its name?? ;-)

By Alison P (Ricelakealison) on Tuesday, June 20, 2006 - 12:09 am:

We Rice Lakers give a nod to Bootjack, but would never say we were Bootjackers. Even if you can make the argument that we DO have the Bootjack fire department to thank for our fire safty!

By Erica - Florida Keys (Erica) on Tuesday, June 20, 2006 - 12:13 am:

Pictures like this are so beautiful I wonder how you can find another one good enough to post the next day... .but you always do. Some very talented photographers UP there!

By Downstatedon (Downstatedon) on Tuesday, June 20, 2006 - 02:13 am:

Suzanne Primuth; Did you ever find someone to
treat you for the Menere's Disease? I had it about
15 years ago and went to the U. OF M. Hospital and
had inner ear surgery. They decompressed a sac in
the inner ear that was full of fluid and I recovered fully from it. It was a horrible thing
to live with. Hopefully you found some help.

By Mary Lou Curtin (Marylou) on Tuesday, June 20, 2006 - 05:02 am:

Capt Paul...A bootjack is a device used to help a lumberjack take off his boots.....without bendimg over.. ....has a V carved on a slab of wood..early settlers thought the area looked like a bootjack...there was a lot of wood-cutting in the area.....my dad bought "Johnny Bootjack's" cabin..he was an old lumberjack who put up the cabin for one winter's stay....it is still there about 80 yrs later. The couple that bought the place from me 2 yrs ago just restored it to wonderful condition with a lot of help from Joey Bevridge.....I left our bootjack on the bookshelf when I left.....

By kosk in Toronto (Koskintoronto) on Tuesday, June 20, 2006 - 06:59 am:

Marylou--

Very interesting. I had no idea what a bootjack
was. I always thought it was a weird name for
a town to have though.
