Charlie at Pasty Central (Chopper) on Tuesday, May 30, 2006 - 05:59 am:

Let me add to Mary's comments on the Cam Notes page, a big thank you to the hundreds (and thousands) of people who have helped make the past 10 years the best decade of our lives. Besides all of the contributing photographers, the online feedback from many, many people over the years has enabled this virtual community to grow beyond anything we could dream 10 years ago when it all began.

And there is another group of individuals who deserve a lot of credit: the residents and staff of Still Waters Community Elders Home in Calumet, where pasty.com was born. Eight years ago today Verna Kangas slowed down long enough to pose for the Pasty Cam - a tireless worker who served for decades at this Home for the Aged. We applaud all of the residents and staff who have worked behind the scenes all these years.

The special fund raiser for Still Waters which kicked off earlier this month at the Calumet Theatre continues to gain support from all over. No one is ever turned away from Still Waters on the basis of their ability to pay, and that is only possible because many friends have contributed to this effort over the years. Thank you for your interest and concern.

And thank you for making Pasty Central a part of your day!

WTG Mikie on your first posting of the day!! Congrats!

Yes! THANK YOU to everyone at Pasty for doing such a great job over the years. Also many more years to come, I appreciate it more than I can ever tell you.

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Tuesday, May 30, 2006 - 07:08 am:

WOW Mikie! Twice in one month. What's this world coming to? I'm betting you don't mind getting up this early when you get all this attention, huh? Good job!

By Michael Du Long (Mikie) on Tuesday, May 30, 2006 - 07:16 am:

I want to thank the little people who woke me up this morning. The garbage truck, the street sweeper, and the paper delivery people who were yelling at each other at about five this morning. Also the neighbor who let his car alarm go for about ten minutes. Also Issack my five year old neighbor who was yelling at his dad that they need air conditioning, I heard all of this with my air on and all the windows closed.

By Tim in Oscoda (Timmer280) on Tuesday, May 30, 2006 - 07:30 am:

Mikie! You are becoming a dominating force to be dealt with! (any advice for the Pistons?)

Congrats!

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Tuesday, May 30, 2006 - 07:42 am:

Tim, I'm with you. They need all the advice they can get. I'm so disgusted with them right now. They are so much better than the Heat. They'd better win the next 3 (yeah, right).

By Margaret, Amarillo TX (Margaret) on Tuesday, May 30, 2006 - 07:46 am:

Mornin', just glad to be here.

By dan belo (Djbelo) on Tuesday, May 30, 2006 - 09:23 am:

what happened to the power lines at 7;45 to 8;25 am
Was it the temperature?

By Michael Du Long (Mikie) on Tuesday, May 30, 2006 - 10:41 am:

Tim, Now you have to get it tomorrow, like the last time.
Margret, Did you get as much rain as they did in Houston, my nephew was flooded out.
Dan Belo, Didn't you hear that the hamster died that was making the electricity and it took them a while to find a replacement, I heard they had to use a three legged chipmunk until a new hamster is brought in from Green Bay.

By Cotton (Cotton) on Tuesday, May 30, 2006 - 01:15 pm:

Mikie, I can see that you do have some of my Dad's
wit!! I got early but not as early as you and shortly after a thunderstor rolled with. So we had no Dish, no computer BUT I did have a still warm cozy bed. I love lying down listening to the rain & thunder. So naturally crawled into bed & fell asleep. Just woke up at 12:30 to the sound of a LOUD movie that my husband is watching. I've retreated to my computer room & oh so happy my computer is on again.
Still cloudy & dark out, I may have another afternoon nap yet! LOL
Happy 37th birthday to our son Scott. Hope he sees the Gazette tonight. Though he may not talk to his Mother tomorrow!! I put in a cute picture of him at 3 years then a picture of him taken a couple of years ago. He is making a face, his cheeks filled with air so they're huge, & his eyes are crossed & his hat is on sideways!! It's comical! (Guess he also has some of his Grandpa's humor)He's seen the picture before but am sure he never expected to see it in the Gazette. Caption was "Watching Scott grow and grow and grow. That song was popular when he was a baby.

By Michael Du Long (Mikie) on Tuesday, May 30, 2006 - 01:31 pm:

Just in from electricity centeral, a new hamster for the Lake Linden/Hubbell grid is on it's way and should be relieving the three legged chipmunk soon. The chipmunk has been running in the squirrel cage connected to the generator now and it seems to be accomplishing the same amount of voltage as the old hamster did. If you are still having problems call U.P. power and let them know, and they will provide a cat in the cage to make the chippy run a little faster. I know this is true because Speedy Jenks told me this is the way they run the power company in 1949. Since then they have used up most of the hamsters in the Copper Country, hence you never see them in the bush. Now I understand they are becoming scarce in the troll land also, as I have never seen any by my house down here in Berkley, but that could be due to the fact that one legged flamingos that are drunk on daquires are fond of hamsters as a snack food. Now I know that Capt. Paul will have the scientific expalnation for this. Sur5er, do you have many in Indiana or are they scarce there also? Kosk, How about in Toronto?Seems the Canadians are more protective of small species.

By Michael Du Long (Mikie) on Tuesday, May 30, 2006 - 01:35 pm:

Scott, used to visit us I think back when he was a teenager and would stay with my parents along with Tim. I think it is the same Scott isn't it. I normaly see him when I am in Hubbell but didn't see him this year.

Whew things are back to normal. It was so slow and quiet yesterday I thought everyone had left! So Mikie did you do the Brits (or was it the French) in? Boy I hope they let that poor 3-legged chipmunk out by now> Have you ever considered writing for Leno or Letterman, they could really use your humor sometimes. Margaret did you get some of Houston's rain. Hope Corpus did. Your post seems so sobering amidst the revelry of our zany friends. Yes some days I give a prayer of thanks to wake up in my own world. You especially have a reason to be thankful. How is everything these days? And cotton, if you were my mom and did that to me, you'd be on the top of my stinky list. Charlie I add my thanks to your thoughts for this wonderful site. Every little bit of input adds up up a fabulous place in our hearts. I just wonder whatever happened to some of our old friends, Mr. Wheatman, the Oklahoma trucker and Elvira? P.S. The flamingos have landed in my yard :)

By Ms. Katie (Mskatie) on Tuesday, May 30, 2006 - 04:53 pm:

Just checked yesterdays posts, after I had looked the last time before the weather caused me to leave the 'puter yesterday. I'm a worry wart when it comes to electricity etc. So I found many answers to my questions today. Glad everyone had a good time. Deb S. waterfalls are high on my list to do when I'm UP there next month. Here comes some more static and thunder so I'm hanging up for now.

By Michael Du Long (Mikie) on Tuesday, May 30, 2006 - 06:30 pm:

Unfortunatly the Brits won the war even though we won the first day of battles. Maybe we will win at the next one. We still have not had any rain. Rachel Ray is on now, she reminds me of Precious when she was young, love the long brown hair. We will be married for forty years on Sept 24 and they said it wouldn't last. Tim my grandson enjoyed the reenactment after he found out that he could get an unlimited amount of dollar bill$ from Pa, that is what he calls me instead of Grandpa.Andrea the Irish dancer got three first place medals and a second and a third place at her competition. She already knew about how easy it is to get things from granparents. Margaret is every thing ok?

By Michael Du Long (Mikie) on Tuesday, May 30, 2006 - 06:38 pm:

Cotton, I just thought about the time I recieved a Valentine card signed a secret lover. I was sixteen and spent the rest of the school term trying to find out who it was. Years later I recieved another one and was just as intrigued with the idea that someone was secretly in love with me still after all these years. I had kept the original and had looked at it many times through out the years, you can imagine how thrilled I was to recieve another. Well after about a month I found out by accident who had sent them. It still brings a tear to my eye.

By Cotton (Cotton) on Tuesday, May 30, 2006 - 07:39 pm:

mikie, don't tell me it was my father??? I can't believe he'd be that hateful! Oh, it is the same Scott. 37 year old already! Won't say how old his Mom is lol We'll have to get together sometime so you can tell me more stories of him (Dad). You know more than me I think.

By Michael Du Long (Mikie) on Tuesday, May 30, 2006 - 08:18 pm:

Cotton, He wasn't being hatefull my mother set me up and he mailed it from Ohio. Then when I was in the army they did it again. When I picked your dad up from the ship we stopped for a few,and he forgot who he was with. Confessed it all. Tried to get him back but never suceeded, so watch out. You are his closest relative. I am vindictive.

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Tuesday, May 30, 2006 - 08:40 pm:

I think they are called "FrankenFlamingoes"......

And, for your information, all the hamsters these days are used in the compact cars, especially from overseas. Everyone always calls them "riceburners", well how do you think those hamsters stay alive??? It's not the cars burning rice, it's feed for the rodents!!

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Tuesday, May 30, 2006 - 08:42 pm:

And no, we didnt get a lot of rain here, but in east Houston they got 12-16 inches of rain in 6 hours yesterday. I guess they are saying there's more on the way. Unfortunitely, I have to work in downtown, where all the water ponds up quite nicely after a good rain...

By Michael Du Long (Mikie) on Tuesday, May 30, 2006 - 08:43 pm:

capt. Paul, I knew you would be able to explain the phenomanen [sp] I guess a tuneup consists of changing chipmunks and putting in new ones.

By Michael Du Long (Mikie) on Tuesday, May 30, 2006 - 08:46 pm:

I meant hamsters. Sorry no light in the computer room couldn't see what my fingers were typing.

By Dr. Nat in Texas (Drnat) on Tuesday, May 30, 2006 - 09:09 pm:

If you need some rodents, why not look in Minnesota. I think they're called "Golden Gophers" over there.
--Nat "The Badger"

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Tuesday, May 30, 2006 - 10:01 pm:

Hey, let's not be picking on the Golden Gophers. However, the Wolverines will have them for lunch!!!

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Tuesday, May 30, 2006 - 10:03 pm:

Ms. Katie, Make sure you get to the Hungarian Falls. There are about 5 sets of Falls before you're done walking. They're quite the sight to see. The hike is fun too. Mary should put the picture on here that she has where you can see 2 sets of falls at once. That's gorgeous.

By Michael Du Long (Mikie) on Tuesday, May 30, 2006 - 11:12 pm:

Who is going to be first tomorrow?

By Betty Paull Colborn,AZ (Betty) on Wednesday, May 31, 2006 - 01:12 am:

Will you be up that early Mikie? I am hoping Tim will be. It's his birthday tomorrow. We will find out tho hey.

By Michael Du Long (Mikie) on Wednesday, May 31, 2006 - 08:35 am:

Betty, As you can see I wasn't up that early, I wanted Tim to be the early bird. So how old is he? The sun is shining the birds are singing Jimmie is at the window watching the chipmunks run around, and Precious wakes me to ask where her umbrella is. Looks like it will be another beautiful day, it was suposed to rain yesterday but didn't and it is suposed to rain today, lets hope it doesn't.

By Betty Paull Colborn,AZ (Betty) on Wednesday, May 31, 2006 - 10:16 am:

I don't know if Tim would want me to say how old he is or not today Mikie. :-) He is my oldest tho. I thought you were up a little early today. Heard you are having really hot weather there. I'm up early too, only 7 a.m. here in AZ. Wanted to get on here and wish Tim H.B. It is HOT here too, but I heard yesterday you were 'warmer' than we were. Have a good day.

By Betty Paull Colborn,AZ (Betty) on Thursday, June 1, 2006 - 12:52 am:

Did you get the rain Mikie? Did it cool you down? Tim was 48 today. Young hey......

By Michael Du Long (Mikie) on Thursday, June 1, 2006 - 01:01 am:

Betty, I have shoes that old. Boy did it ever rain but not until around time for Precious to come home and there was no umbrella in her car, guess who got blamed. My air is still running and it is seventy four in the house outside it is very muggy.

By Betty Paull Colborn,AZ (Betty) on Thursday, June 1, 2006 - 01:35 am:

Don't you know Mikie we always blame our hubby's. We are known for that aren't we?
I heard it was real humid there. Hope you
don't have that kind of weather all summer.
We won't be going back home this summer so
guess we will miss the humidity. HA I know
I am getting so old now with a son that age.

By Michael Du Long (Mikie) on Thursday, June 1, 2006 - 07:56 am:

Betty, I graduated from Dondero in 1961 did you go there or to Kimble?

By Tim in Oscoda (Timmer280) on Thursday, June 1, 2006 - 10:09 am:

She graduated Dondero in 57 which must be why she can't add! I'm only 47 this year!

Morning Mikie! Late post today...maybe the you have another shot at the early bird...I'm on break but won't be back on til lunchtime...limits my chances today...

By Michael Du Long (Mikie) on Thursday, June 1, 2006 - 10:33 am:

Tim, Math must not have been taught to well at Dondero,as I suffer from the same problem.

By Betty Paull Colborn,AZ (Betty) on Thursday, June 1, 2006 - 01:08 pm:

Gee, I have myself a year older than I am too. WOW, now I feel younger..... Must be the Math problem from Dondero or is it 'just getting old' and losing my mind?

By Michael Du Long (Mikie) on Thursday, June 1, 2006 - 11:21 pm:

Betty, Blame the school. Either that or blame the kids for making you older then you are.
