Jay Fedorocko sent me this picture of a newborn fawn along with a story about his discovering it!
Quote:I was mowing by the horse pen when a singular deer appear. An oddity on this farm since I have never seen a deer by itself in the 19 years I have lived here.
It seem determined to go some place, yet it's movements were not quite typical being less then fluid. It rounded the pen and walked across the drive towards the house. I just kept mowing the small area before moving over to the other side of the stream. About a half hour later, I see a small rusty color object up by the older Chassell Township well. Clueless. Then the winter-coated adult deer appeared.
I was seeing her newborn baby in its spotted rusty brown summer coat. How exciting! I kept mowing circles around the tree until finished, while watching the two. I put the tractor back in the garage, put a unknowing beagle in the house and grabbed the camera. I found the two at the stream side. Mom took off as I expected she would, then I saw the 12" high fawn crossing the stream. Probably it's first time. The fawn went into 'still' mode. I sort of rushed the pic taking before I lost the opportunity.
