Charlie at Pasty Central (Chopper) on Thursday, May 18, 2006 - 07:46 am:

In case you missed it, there was an article on the front page of the Mining Gazette yesterday about the non-profit Home where Pasty Central was born. Jeff Valley left Still Waters on his bike yesterday - which is only 4 blocks away from the Calumet Theatre - but he headed in the opposite direction... Around the world? Well, maybe not that extreme, but he did set out around the Keweenaw Peninsula. Yesterday Jeff covered the loop from Calumet, down to the Portage Canal at Hancock, along the eastern shore. He ended up late last night at Bete Gris! Altogether about 75 miles of peddling.

Jeff spent the night as a guest of Lac LaBelle Lodge, and is starting out this morning around the point, out to High Rock Bay, and ending up this evening - after a gruelling day in the woods - at Copper Harbor. All along the way Jeff is leaving posters and invitations for everyone to enjoy an evening at the Calumet Theatre on Saturday.

By kosk in Toronto (Koskintoronto) on Thursday, May 18, 2006 - 08:10 am:

I'm going LP tomorrow, but best of all, I'm
going UP on Saturday. It's the Victoria Day
weekend here in Canada, so what are we
doing on a long weekend? Of course we're
going UP.

Stuck here in TX. Last week of school next week and graduations all over the place next weekend.

Good morning everyone :)
Usedtobeayooper, 70 today? Dang, that's a heat wave for us, with temps having been in the 40's and 50's these past couple of weeks. Did I tell you that the leaves on my maple tree are starting to turn orange and red...just as if it were fall? What's with that, eh.

Kosk, Have a wonderful and safe trip to da LP and UP. We'll be expecting a full report, when you get back :)

Cotton, I hope you are having a better day today. ((((((((((((((((HUGS)))))))))))))))))))

Cotton;I read what you wrote about Kathy, and you must know how that struck me.I will be looking on here for more info on her condition, praying.
Friend's on here; Kathy was my sweetheart from 1976 til 1981.We lived in $Bay,and then she came with me to Plymouth,MN.We parted on friendly terms as she moved to Jacksonville,FL.where she needed to be with her twin sister.I last seen her in 1989 in the U.P. along with her daughter Renee.Being with Kathy and her children Frank & Renee were happy times in my life.I had a rough time getting over that relationship!I'am having a very sad time here today.

Dave, Regardless where you go in life, the loves and the friendships will always remain in your heart. You will remember your first love forever, no matter where life takes you on this wild ride. Know where you are coming from, good luck.

By WishingIWasInDaUP (Sur5er) on Thursday, May 18, 2006 - 11:43 am:

David, I am so sorry for your loss. I am sure that you always shared a special place in Kathy's heart...as she does in your heart.
Sometimes, love isn't something to be 'gotten over', because it is always carried in our hearts and meant to stay where it was firmly planted.

By maija in Commerce Township (Maija) on Thursday, May 18, 2006 - 11:56 am:

dave: first loves are irreplaceable, but as Mikie and Sur5er said, never leave. You'll have wonderful memories.

By maija in Commerce Township (Maija) on Thursday, May 18, 2006 - 11:56 am:

Cotton: so hard to lose a great friend. Thoughts are with you.

By maija in Commerce Township (Maija) on Thursday, May 18, 2006 - 11:58 am:

Marsha: thinking of you and your father and sweet mother. Sad times, no doubt. Warm memories will replace the grief.

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Thursday, May 18, 2006 - 08:21 pm:

Dave, So sorry about Kathy. It is so hard. I haven't lost my first love yet. We're still great friends and you always remember it. I married mine and though it didn't last, I like to think we're friends. He may actually lose me first as we don't know what life has in store for us. I'll be thinking about you and remembering Kathy in my prayers.

Kosk, Have a safe trip you lucky thing you. I'll be leaving next Friday a.m. (early) and returning on Monday p.m. I'm anxious to see my parents and some other relatives and to visit cemeteries in the area. I have flowers for the graves so will probably spend a good portion of a day there. I also want to visit the grave of the little girl who fell in the mine. Roger gave me directions and I kept them. So many things to do and so little time.

Sur5er, I don't think we hit 70's. It (of course) started to rain and that brought the temps right down. It was in the 60's but not the 70's. Mid 70's tomorrow though with NO chance of rain. I'll believe THAT when I see it. Tomorrow night I'm going with some girlfriends to see Tim McGraw and Faith Hill. I'm so excited. It ought to be a great time. Music and reading are my passion so this is one thing that I do a lot. So sorry for you guys who will miss it.

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Thursday, May 18, 2006 - 08:24 pm:

Oh yeah Kosk, "I'm going LP tomorrow, but best of all I'm going UP on Saturday"? What the heck kind of talk is that for a teacher? Oh yeah, that's right. It's YOOPER lingo. You go girl!!!

By Marsha, Genesee/Aura (Marsha) on Thursday, May 18, 2006 - 09:31 pm:

Alright, guys, how come no one has told me about all the flocks of white pelicans in Keweenaw and Baraga Counties? Just got the info from upbirders.org.

By Michael Du Long (Mikie) on Thursday, May 18, 2006 - 10:34 pm:

Now I have to have a pelican in my yard to keep the flamingo company.

By kosk in Toronto (Koskintoronto) on Friday, May 19, 2006 - 06:44 am:
