Charlie at Pasty Central (Chopper) on Tuesday, May 16, 2006 - 06:43 am:

These days with the Pasty Cam, Mary Drew selects the shot of the day, prepares the formatted sizes (and the remarks) and uploads it all for me to finalize each morning. Then I display the photo we featured on this day 8 years ago, when we were just starting. Funny how a day turns into a week, and a month, and a habit. Somewhere along the line this website took on a life of its own, a 'virtual U.P.', a roaming window on the world where we live.

How appropriate that Mary selected Bill Haller's shots of Cliff Cemetery today. On May 16 of 1998 we published a magnificent view of the textured sky above the Cliffs, which Jonathan had grabbed on his daily drive from Eagle River to Michigan Tech. That photo was one of my favorites.

Life has become more busy than we had ever imagined - for all of us - it just seems to be the nature of our society and way of life. Sometimes whenever the details and pressures of the day seem overwhelming, I quietly cruise up this stretch of US-41 in my mind, and 'Lift up my eyes to the hills..."

more tomorrow

Japei--

My German's more than a little "rusty." On fact, it never
was too good at all. Still I enjoyed the blog. I learned
how to drive in a "bug," so I've always been fond of
them.

Back on Saturday, Erica - Florida Keys asked to see some current shots of the Eagle River Falls, Jacob's Creek Falls and Scott Falls. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to get to AuTrain, but I was up in Copper Harbor on Sunday and snapped these two for your viewing pleasure!

Eagle River Falls
Jacob's Creek Falls

The Silver River was rushing hard too and the Devil's Washtub was splashing and sloshing around to beat the band!

Cool Mary. Wish I could have been with you.

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Tuesday, May 16, 2006 - 06:31 pm:

Thanks, Mary. I saved them to my pictures so I can always have them or maybe some day use them as my background. In fact, I think I'll take the thimbleberries off and put the Falls on. They're gorgeous.
