Into our third month of the Pasty Cam back in 1998, Jonathan still had plenty of sights to share from his daily commute to Michigan Tech. Over the next year we would become quite dependent on our Internet connection, which was the old 'Portup' at the time. But quite often we would find the connection not to be available, or the server to be down, or no answer to our support calls. Somehow we managed to make it day-by-day through the year, but realized we needed a better, more robust and reliable Internet service. So in May of the following year, Jonathan and I started a new Internet service at our Still Waters offices - Pasty.NET - just to have dependable connections and hosting for the Pasty Central staff and sponsors.
The word got out that there was a new, locally operated Internet Provider in the Copper Country... and Pasty.NET began to grow rapidly, with new members added every day (almost every hour sometimes). It was a learning experience - the need for ever expanding resources, growing our support staff, and eventually moving into nationwide dial-up, wireless, and DSL for the 906 area code.
So back in '98 while these daily pictures and discussion rolled along, there was the parallel development of Pasty.NET, and continued growing demand for home-delivery of the delicious pasties we had been enjoying at Still Waters for years. Soon it would become necessary to expand that side of this project as well... but that's another story.
