I certainly don't claim to be an astronomer, but I think this photo by Peg Hardt, is the moon at its quarter phase, when in actuality it's in the last quarter phase right now. Only difference is the half moon in today's shot should be the mirror image, but regardless, it's a striking picture with the tree sprouting and the blue sky composing the background. Check out those buds on the tree - - if you travel around the Copper Country, you'll find the trees in various stages of budding, from barely there, like this shot, to really green and sprouted. Peg's second shot gives you a glimpse of some of that bright foliage reflected in the water. The contrast of the dark evergreen in the forefront looks to be cedar and draws your attention so much so, that you almost miss the fishermen out enjoying the day. That reminds me, time to head to town and pick up my fishing license.

I'll time my trip this morning to see the big parade in Houghton and Hancock, honoring our veterans on Armed Forces Day. And don't forget the Benefit Concert for Still Waters this evening at Calumet Theatre, starting at 7 p.m. Maybe I'll see you there!

Boy, all I had to do is ask to keep those peaceful, relaxing shots rolling in, and I'm getting them! Beautiful!

Anyone would love to be at one of these similar spots fishing.......or just relaxing. Looks like it is going to be a beautiful day here UP north! Finally another long welcomed great day.

Oh my gosh! Another shot that makes you feel all peaceful inside. I could look at shots like these for hours. Keep them coming.

Wonderful shots. Those two guys in the boat simply have to know that it just can't get much better than this.

Why go to town when you can buy your license online?

Hi all,

Just wanted to let you all know that the Armed Forces Day parade in Houghton/Hancock was awesome today with perfect weather. The rain held off until after the parade was over at least. It was a very moving experience, with the fly-over and all the men and women in uniform. Sorry I don't have any photos, but I walked in the parade with the Lake Linden American Legion Post 90, as a Navy Mom, honoring my son Bm3 Gregory E. Drew, currently serving aboard the USS Jarrett.

Oh my gosh, that's me on the boat. I think I was in the parade too. I guess wishful thinking won't get it done!

I walked in the armed forces parade and listened to the ceremony today and the spectators were very enthusiastic and appreciative of it all. Thanks to all who were involved.

The parade was wonderful and very moving! I rode a bus with several senior citizens from OMH-LTCU in Ontonagon County who also are vets or mothers of vets. To see people waving, clapping, and yelling thank you made our hearts swell with pride! Thank you to Dennis Korby and Keweenaw Care for organizing such a wonderful parade of honor!
Here's a shot of the flyover during the parade!
