Touring the Munising area waterfalls is an all day event and looks to be well worth the time spent doing so. Andrew Zeagler started out at the Alger Falls, proceeded on to the Memorial Falls, next stop was the Munising Falls, with the Tannery Falls number four in the line-up and ended with the Wagner Falls. After visiting these five waterfalls, you'd think that was about it, but not so, Alger County actually has 17 falls to enjoy. Well this is pretty cool. I had in mind to take Hilarie to see Alder Falls, Yellow Dog Falls, and Little Garlic Falls in Marquette today, but things didn't work out, so this waterfall tour is quite a treat as I head into work instead :)

Charlie, I discovered Pasty Central years ago because of the "Golden Pasty Award" which appears in many places on Michigan Tech's website, mtu.edu.

That would have been on ParentNET, which proudly displays the Golden Pasty to this very day

advice yesterday about radical U.P. Finnish-Americans in the
1930s with some even going off to settle in Karelia at that time.
After posting that note yesterday I looked up Karelia in the
Wikipedia and found lots there. There was even something on
Finnish-Karelian pasties made of rye with a rice filling. I think I
will stay with the old Cornish recipe myself -- tho it would be
fun (once?) to try this Finnish type.

Beautiful slideshow, Andrew! Why would anyone go anywhere else to see waterfalls other than the U.P., particularly the Munising, Baraga County and Keweenaw areas?

Right now I am looking at an almost identical shot of Wagner Falls on my Wild & Scenic Michigan calendar. One of these days I'll have to see more of these in person; the only one I've visited is Munising Falls.

I am a "newcomer" from about 2 years ago after seeing an article in Newsweek and after my son made a visit around the same time to drive the support vehicle for a fella during a road rally in your beautiful area. Have been addicted to this site ever since. Thanks again for everyone's marvelous efforts. It is a daily treat.

Beautiful shots of the falls, Andrew. What I wouldn't up in the UP now, wandering around in the woods and searching for waterfalls. Sigh. Ever notice how magnificant nature smells, when you're viewing a waterfall?

Charlie, Congrats on the number of viewers you have to Pasty Cam :) I was fortunate to find Pasty Cam a few years ago, thanks to my Swedish neighbor who is from northern Michigan. He came over to visit one Christmas Eve, and I was down in the dumps about not being home in Michigan. So he stood in my kitchen and cheered me up with Da Yooper skits...which he does quite well, by the way, with his Swedish accent. When he went to leave, he told me to check out Da Yooper website, next time I got homesick...and that's where I found the link for Pasty Cam :)

Charlie keep us up to date on when the road will be passable. Other then coming in from Eagle Harbor is there another way into Copper Harbor?

The Tannery Falls are kind of hard to find. There is a sign that says they are there. But you have to climb the side of a hill. Its off the road a bit. Don't know if its still that hard to find, its been about 4 years since I have been there. Sure would like to visit again! Just around the corner from the Munising Falls!

But they are worth the trip!

Waterfalls are 1 thing that make Michigan's U.P. unique.
