Touring the Munising area waterfalls is an all day event and looks to be well worth the time spent doing so. Andrew Zeagler started out at the Alger Falls, proceeded on to the Memorial Falls, next stop was the Munising Falls, with the Tannery Falls number four in the line-up and ended with the Wagner Falls. After visiting these five waterfalls, you'd think that was about it, but not so, Alger County actually has 17 falls to enjoy. Take a look at this slideshow from Andrew's Guest Gallery for a few shots of some other U.P. waterfalls he visited on this tour. What a great way to spend the day!

By Charlie at Pasty Central (Chopper) on Friday, May 12, 2006 - 07:25 am:

We welcome new Pasty Cam visitors who are discovering the site this morning because of yesterday's article by Judith Harris Solomon in the Detroit News. Pasty Central celebrates 10 years on the web later this month, with more than 8 of those years bringing a 'daily glimpse of life from the U.P.' known as the Pasty Cam.

Every time 'pasty' or 'pasties' appears in the news, pasty.com picks up hundreds of new visitors, who discover they can come back every day for something new from God's Country (the 906 area code). Have you ever noticed, Pasty Central appears as #1 in every search engine when you put in the singular or plural of the word? In fact, we even picked up hundreds of new visitors when Janet Jackson had her 'wardrobe mishap' in the Super Bowl a couple of years ago. (The word does have multiple meanings, you know.)

This website served over 2 million unique visitors last year, and now averages around 10 million 'hits' a month, which tells us there are lots of folks who come back often.

How ever you found us, thank you for stopping by Pasty Central. Try some of our delicious U.P. style pasties, with home delivery by FedEx or UPS... enter the monthly contest (the longest running continuous contest on the web in the state of Michigan, since 1998)... leave a note on our daily picture page or 'What'sUP' page (for other topics)... browse through the Guest Gallery, now with more than 330 contributors and over 330,000 photos and slide shows. And be sure to check out years of pictures in the Archives, printed on Recycled Internet.

Don't forget to join us July 1 here in the Copper Country as Main Street Calumet hosts the third annual Pasty Fest, where we'll be giving away hundreds of FREE PASTIES to out-of-towners and locals alike.

WOW!!! Those shots are great! I have pictures of some of these some place as I've been to some but sure don't remember where they are since it was so many years ago. Great job Andrew!!! Absolutely gorgeous. Great slideshow too.

By Shelley Trowbridge (Shelleyt36) on Friday, May 12, 2006 - 07:29 am:

What beautiful pictures! Sure does brighten up an otherwise, dull, dreary rainy a.m. here in the L.P! Have a great day everyone!

By Nate (Nalwine) on Friday, May 12, 2006 - 07:31 am:

Well this is pretty cool. I had in mind to take Hilarie to see Alder Falls, Yellow Dog Falls, and Little Garlic Falls in Marquette today, but things didn't work out, so this waterfall tour is quite a treat as I head into work instead :)

Thanks!

Charlie, I discovered Pasty Central years ago because of the "Golden Pasty Award" which appears in many places on Michigan Tech's website, mtu.edu.

That would have been on ParentNET, which proudly displays the Golden Pasty to this very day

By the way, for all who were looking for the link to the story about Technology in the Copper Country, you can find it at the new website of the Great Lakes IT Report. Along with Pasty.NET, several other Michigan Tech spinoffs are mentioned.

If I didn't know better, I would have thought those pictures were photoshopped.

Great shots Andrew thanks for sharing
Good article in that Detroit paper too
Just called up Dobbers in Esky to get my fix
See you next week for the anual Bonifas Art Center auction. Always a great time for a great cause.

Thanks to Kosk in Toronto and Ken and Mimi for their helpful
advice yesterday about radical U.P. Finnish-Americans in the
1930s with some even going off to settle in Karelia at that time.
After posting that note yesterday I looked up Karelia in the
Wikipedia and found lots there. There was even something on
Finnish-Karelian pasties made of rye with a rice filling. I think I
will stay with the old Cornish recipe myself -- tho it would be
fun (once?) to try this Finnish type.

Beautiful slideshow, Andrew! Why would anyone go anywhere else to see waterfalls other than the U.P., particularly the Munising, Baraga County and Keweenaw areas?

By Kathyrn Laughlin (Kathyl) on Friday, May 12, 2006 - 12:21 pm:

Right now I am looking at an almost identical shot of Wagner Falls on my Wild & Scenic Michigan calendar. One of these days I'll have to see more of these in person; the only one I've visited is Munising Falls.

By Bob Jewell, Farmington Hills (Rjewell) on Friday, May 12, 2006 - 12:55 pm:

Charlie
I couldn't figure out why I hadn't seen the pasty article in my Free Press until I saw your Detroit Free press link goes to the Detroit News.

Thanks for the head's up, Bob. We have corrected the wording.

By dotti caldwell (Dotti) on Friday, May 12, 2006 - 01:10 pm:

Charlie: Wow! Those numbers are staggering! I am a "newcomer" from about 2 years ago after seeing an article in Newsweek and after my son made a visit around the same time to drive the support vehicle for a fella during a road rally in your beautiful area. Have been addicted to this site ever since. Thanks again for everyone's marvelous efforts. It is a daily treat.

By WishingIWasInDaUP (Sur5er) on Friday, May 12, 2006 - 02:02 pm:

Beautiful shots of the falls, Andrew. What I wouldn't up in the UP now, wandering around in the woods and searching for waterfalls. Sigh. Ever notice how magnificant nature smells, when you're viewing a waterfall?

Charlie, Congrats on the number of viewers you have to Pasty Cam :) I was fortunate to find Pasty Cam a few years ago, thanks to my Swedish neighbor who is from northern Michigan. He came over to visit one Christmas Eve, and I was down in the dumps about not being home in Michigan. So he stood in my kitchen and cheered me up with Da Yooper skits...which he does quite well, by the way, with his Swedish accent. When he went to leave, he told me to check out Da Yooper website, next time I got homesick...and that's where I found the link for Pasty Cam :)

By Steve Haagen (Radsrh) on Friday, May 12, 2006 - 11:46 pm:

Charlie keep us up to date on when the road will be passable. Other then coming in from Eagle Harbor is there another way into Copper Harbor?

By Happy to be in the U.P. (Lahelo) on Friday, May 12, 2006 - 11:48 pm:

The Tannery Falls are kind of hard to find. There is a sign that says they are there. But you have to climb the side of a hill. Its off the road a bit. Don't know if its still that hard to find, its been about 4 years since I have been there. Sure would like to visit again! Just around the corner from the Munising Falls!

By Happy to be in the U.P. (Lahelo) on Friday, May 12, 2006 - 11:49 pm:

But they are worth the trip!

By Thomas Baird (Thomas) on Thursday, October 2, 2008 - 08:33 pm:

Waterfalls are 1 thing that make Michigan's U.P. unique.
