Good morning everyone.

I was recently given a copy of my family's geneology record but it is in Finnish. Does anyone on the site know where I can get it translated? If so, please e-mail me. Thanks in advance for any help.

By Rowdy (Roudymi) on Thursday, April 20, 2006 - 08:41 am:

I'm not new. Maybe slowed down a bit, but not new.

Good morning everyone :) Miss Katie, I stepped outside this morning and couldn't help but wonder, we'll be putting our pools up soon, yes? ;)

By Ms. Katie (Mskatie) on Thursday, April 20, 2006 - 12:30 pm:

Sur5er, good morning. You betcha! I went without a pool last year due to drought and our well. But not this year. Looks like it needs a new liner and maybe I'll get a local milk hauler to fill it for me. Yes I'm counting the weeks til I can get in.

By WishingIWasInDaUP (Sur5er) on Thursday, April 20, 2006 - 01:11 pm:

Ms Katie, That'll work :) So when are we breaking ground? Right now, I'm trying to get hubby to make a more permanent area for the pool, by digging out the ground a little and laying some sand.

By Charles in Adrian (Charlesinadrian) on Thursday, April 20, 2006 - 03:13 pm:

We were thinking of moving north, but now I wonder. When I
glance out the window in the the room where I am sitting and
see our glorious magnolia tree fully bedecked in its wonderful
pink blossoms and then look at that leftover snow way up
yonder, I have to ask: "are we nuts?"

Well, while typing this, our real estate agent up north called
to tell us of another very nice house for us to consider. No flies
on that guy! And he reassured me Esky is miles and miles south
of the Copper Country. No snow in Esky for weeks now, he said.

Mary says: Charles, Have no fear, piles of snow like this are few and far between in the Copper Country right now too and are only the result of people plowing or snowblowing it into huge piles. Otherwise the snow UP North here has also been gone for several weeks now.

By Mary Lou Curtin (Marylou) on Thursday, April 20, 2006 - 03:31 pm:

Charles.....No snow here .....Escanaba has had a pretty mild winter and we receive much less snow than Houghton or Marquette....but I do not know about a magnolia tree..that may be a problem...

By Capt. Paul (Eclogite) on Thursday, April 20, 2006 - 05:13 pm:

It seems like the UP in general had a pretty mild winter this year...

I am saddened by the fact that this was the first year in my life where I didn't see snow falling; I even saw it in Vegas, if you can believe that??

By Karen (Kmr5os) on Thursday, April 20, 2006 - 06:56 pm:

Magnolia trees survive in Houghton. There was a very pretty Magnolia tree in Houghton, kind of behind Trinity Episcopal Church.

By WishingIWasInDaUP (Sur5er) on Thursday, April 20, 2006 - 09:05 pm:

Capt. Paul, Not one single snowflake all winter long? I don't think I would have survived ;)

Charles in Adrian, Enjoy your move to the UP...and if you start to second guess your decision to move to the UP, just think of how envious the rest of us are ;)

By Robert - CO (Halork) on Thursday, April 20, 2006 - 11:38 pm:

Chin up Capt. Paul! The year is still young! I remember watching the 4th of July parade in the snow one year up in Grand Marais!

By Beverly, San Jose (Beverly) on Friday, April 21, 2006 - 02:31 am:

Ahhhhh! So you are still up ser5er. So how do you plan to importune hubby to dig that hole for the pool? Or do you flat out use bribery? Is he the kind that everytime you ask him to do something, he suddenly gets hurt to get out of it? Or do you put your holster on, dun your badge, and hold your water gun on him? Or do you go for the French Maids Uniform? Would like to hear your method. When do you plan to tell him about the palm trees and pink flamingos?
You Go Girl!

By WishingIWasInDaUP (Sur5er) on Friday, April 21, 2006 - 02:51 am:

Beverly, You are too funny...and know me all too well :0 It's like this: In our household, the person with the most D.C.numbers on speed dial wins. Hubby: zero numbers. Me: tee hee hee hee :)

That's how I get hubby to jump. Works like a charm all the time :)

By WishingIWasInDaUP (Sur5er) on Friday, April 21, 2006 - 02:52 am:

You know what Beverly, I never thought about getting some of those obnoxious looking plastic flamingo for around the pool. Think I might make a trip down to wallymart, eh.

By Beverly, San Jose (Beverly) on Friday, April 21, 2006 - 02:58 am:

wallymart...is that where all the illegals work?

By WishingIWasInDaUP (Sur5er) on Friday, April 21, 2006 - 04:08 am:

ROFL. Come to think of it, there was a wallymart around here, that was busted for locking the illegals inside the store, when the store was closed...so the illegals wouldn't leave in the middle of thier shift. I guess the theory there, was if wallymart was going to hire illegals, they were going to make sure they got their money's worth of illegal labor out of them, eh.

By Beverly, San Jose (Beverly) on Friday, April 21, 2006 - 04:35 am:

I heard that Toy are Us does the same thing.

By WishingIWasInDaUP (Sur5er) on Friday, April 21, 2006 - 04:43 am:

Well at least in Toys R Us, they have better toys to play with :)

By Beverly, San Jose (Beverly) on Friday, April 21, 2006 - 05:13 am:

I heard they had palm trees and flamingos and French Maids uniforms on sale. 2 for 1 so you bought LOTS. heh heh heh heh :)

By WishingIWasInDaUP (Sur5er) on Friday, April 21, 2006 - 05:27 am:

Well all I can say, is that I dressed all those flamingos in those maid uniforms...and they still haven't cleaned the house. Sigh.

By Margaret, Amarillo TX (Margaret) on Friday, April 21, 2006 - 07:13 am:

Good old flamingos. In Indiana aren't they foreign born?

By WishingIWasInDaUP (Sur5er) on Friday, April 21, 2006 - 07:18 am:

Good morning Margaret :)

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Friday, April 21, 2006 - 08:03 am:

Sur5er & Ms Katie, We have a 24 round pool that is UP permanently all year. My husband leveled the ground, put pea rock underneath of it and it is a pain in the you know what. He calls it his boat because that's what he wanted, but of course the female always wins the war. Maybe not all of the battles, but definitely the wars. Anyway, it's a lot of work for him but I love it and that's what counts.

By Michael Du Long (Mikie) on Friday, April 21, 2006 - 08:03 am:

so this is what goes on before eleven in the morning.
