Just about anywhere along Lake Superior's shoreline is a magnificent view, but for some reason, this type of shot by Tanya Voldarski always grabs my attention. It must be the perspective of that higher elevation, looking down over the Big Lake. It allows you to take in the expanse of her boundaries all at once. There's just a smattering of snow left in places along the way, but before you know it, that picnic table will be down on all fours and occupied by happy picnickers, enjoying the ambiance of a beautiful setting!

Just the right expectation that summer is coming.

By Helen Milan (Hmilan) on Wednesday, April 12, 2006 - 07:04 am:

Just a gorgeous picture. Another one I can use as background on my computer...Thanks for the inviting view. It is upper 60's and lower 70's, today, in the Southwest suburbs of Chicago. Have a superb day!!

Those posts remind of a job I once had with the Houghton County Road Commission.

Two of us painted, by hand, all the guard rail posts between Chassell and Dollar Bay....all of them..both sides of the road...did I say by hand ?

We also cut all the grass around the poles with hand sickles, scythes, and those swinging golf club looking cutters.

Great picture! Do you know where it is Mary? I love shots like this also. Dave, sounds like a lot of fun painting those posts! EEEUUUUWWWW!!! I don't like painting walls! lol

Looks like one of the scenic spots along Sand Bay with Clarks Point to the right.

By Capt. Paul & Dr. Nat in Texas (Eclogite) on Wednesday, April 12, 2006 - 07:54 am:

Morning all....

Hey Dave, was it uphill in both directions, in a driving snowstorm with barefeet, AND while being chased by the scarecrow?? ;-)

The pic is at that park on Great Sand Bay where the Lake Superior sign is in the summer.

By Marsha, Genesee/Aura (Marsha) on Wednesday, April 12, 2006 - 08:32 am:

Davesou and Eino took a job with the Houghton County Road Commission to paint guardrail posts. The first day they painted for ten miles! The boss was very impressed. The second day they painted for two miles. The boss was a little disappointed. The third day they painted only two posts! The boss sat them down and said, "Davesou and Eino, how come you painted ten miles the first day, two miles the second day, but only two posts today?" Davesou replied, "Well boss, each day I get farther and farther from the paint can."

By Randall Ollila (Rwolli) on Wednesday, April 12, 2006 - 08:37 am:

Morning All.
--Dave sou-- Let me say thank you for your efforts in painting those posts. They are a guide to the road on dark and stormy nights. I would venture a wager that there are many who have used them in this manner to get them safely home.
As Always the pics are great. Enjoy the day everyone.

Beautiful shot of the Big Lake with Spring in the air. It certainly looks like winter is on the wane. Spring in the U.P.; ain't nothin' better.

By Alex J. Tiensivu (Ajtiensivu) on Wednesday, April 12, 2006 - 01:01 pm:

The caption for the above picture says, "ROADSIDE VIEW". You know my last name... in Finnish it means ROADSIDE! So... you have a "TIENSIVU VIEW" on Pasty today! Does that mean I made headlines here today? (Snicker).

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Wednesday, April 12, 2006 - 06:28 pm:

Marsha, That's great, especially since you pulled it on my long lost cousin. Glad you can take a joke, Dave.

By Carole (Carole) on Wednesday, April 12, 2006 - 06:57 pm:

Jeffryeleconte: The picnic table is about a mile or so north of the Jampot along the Great Sand Bay and a little south of the beach by Clarks Point. It is one of the best views around in my opinion. Of course, that area was my grandparents blueberry picking area when I was a little girl waaaaaaaaaaaaaay back when. At that time the Dows owned a little icecream/snack store where the Jampot is today and a summer camp where the Monastery is.
