Another first on the Pasty Cam! On this day in '98, Jonathan discovered that he could rotate the Mavica 90 degrees and... voila! "Portrait mode". Up to this point in the first month of this daily feature, each photo had been in Landscape mode, wider than it is tall. But the portrait mode would go on to provide a vertical perspective on the Pasty Cam, on days when the up-and-down look was more effective than the side-to-side.
As Jonathan and I discussed all these technical details in those early, formative days of the Pasty Cam, I would suddenly realize, This scene is beautiful, however we post it on the web. Remember back in those days the Internet was only a few years old, and there was not much content on the 'net relating to Northern Michigan, much less a "picture-a-day". This may well have been the first photo on the WWW taken along 5-mile-point road.
Thanks for all the notes from viewers who have enjoyed these daily reminiscences, re-living that first month, March 1998. Tomorrow we wrap up the month, and introduce a new navigation tool for accessing the voluminous Pasty Cam Archives.
