Charlie at Pasty Central (Chopper) on Sunday, March 26, 2006 - 10:20 am:

Our first picture of the Quincy Mine shafthouse was featured by the Pasty Cam on this day in 1998. It was one of many views of this Copper Country icon we would visit over the next 8 years. QuincyMine.com would be among the first of 300+ domains Pasty Central would eventually host, which in fact led to the formation of the Internet service Pasty.NET.

The Quincy Mine Hoist Association would also play an important role in bringing high-speed wireless broadband to the base of the Keweenaw Peninsula years later. As one of the highest structures, the Quincy Mine building serves as a multi-directional relay for Pasty.NET users 'off the grid' of other forms of broadband.

Just wamt to thank everyone for their suggestions on what to do with some of the 28+ years of accumulation that we are wading through here in S. FL The trailer comes on Monday and we have 'til Thursday AM to decide what NEEDS to be kept and what WE CAN LIVE WITHOUT ... the trouble is the closer we come to leaving ... the harder it is to throw out anything.

The legal pads went to the Victim's unit at the St Lucie CO Sherrif's department ... the books to the libraries ... and the loose leaf and spiral bound paper, as well as the art supplies and art books to the local school (hopefully ... couldn't reach anyone ... it's spring break down here!)

Thanks again for all your suggestions ... and please keep us in your thoughts. This week is gonna be a touch one ... physically and emotionally.

OK ... so I can't type so well with tears in my eyes! Of course that should be "this week's going to be a tough one."

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Sunday, March 26, 2006 - 07:25 am:

Cindy, It will be a tough week but you'll get through. We all do. I know I'm not looking forward to the time when I have to go through what you are. Our memories are what get us through. Hopefully there are some great memories for you. Try to think about all of the wonderful things that have happened to you during your life, and hopefully, it will be enough to get you through. Our prayers are with you during this journey.

CindyMae: Thinking of you girl. We're right there with you, we just can't be seen.

Cindy, The hardest part of my life is when my parents died. I was in charge of getting the estate in order and whatever I did my one brother complained about. I waited about a year until I cleaned out the house and sold it. By then I was able to save things that I would have gotten rid of if I was hurried. am not sorry I did it that way. You have my condolences in the passing of your loved ones.

I love the shoe-box memories! Today I sort of had one of my own. I recently received a CD copied from a cylinder my grandfather made in the early part of the last century. It included violin music played by my uncle Adolph and a beautiful sax solo played by my cousin (once removed)Rudy Wiedoeft. It is really neat to hear voices and music from the past.

By JanieT (Bobbysgirl) on Sunday, March 26, 2006 - 02:21 pm:

Cindy, my heart goes out to you! I went through this in 1989 with my dad's farm/estate auction. All his tractors and trucks all driving away with strangers at the wheel, and then the selling of his cattle and never seeing them again, I had most of them named. But as time goes on it does help some, my husband and I just went through this all over again in December with his folks estate. Hang in there and stay strong! (easier said than done) Best wishes, Janie

CindyMay, (((((((((((HUGS))))))))). As Margaret said, you are not alone. And remember, that the most important possession that you have, are the memories...so please don't fret about what to keep and what not to keep...you already have the most important possession, in your heart.

By kosk in Toronto (Koskintoronto) on Sunday, March 26, 2006 - 07:53 pm:

Cindy May,

Amen to what the others have said. You are
not alone. Keep the faith!

By Seismic Pirate (Marc) on Sunday, March 26, 2006 - 07:57 pm:

CindyMay, Thanks for the email and the chuckle over the mixed mixed veggies, we certainly seem to have the same tastes, or at least dislikes.
My thoughts are with you-Hang in there.

-from your fellow meatloaf detester :)

Cindy-
You'll be fine. You've already handled so much. When it's all done you can go some place quiet and have the little breakdown.
Take whatever you feel needs saving. Rent a storage unit and leave it all there for a couple months. Then go through it again when emotions do not rule.
Glad the library could take the books.

Cindy,as time passes the pain becomes less intense..memories take over and joy slips into your life again.

By Marsha, Genesee/Aura (Marsha) on Sunday, March 26, 2006 - 09:13 pm:

Was surprised to see another of my postcards featured above! I was just going back over previous days' pasty cam notes looking for something, when I spied all the meatloaf talk that I had somehow missed! And I kinda started it going at 8:30 a.m. I don't know what happened to me after that to make me miss out on everything. So anyway now I've learned something new from Seismic Pirate on that day. You told about meatloaf sandwiches at the Bella Vista. I've never been in there and did not know they served food. I always thought it looked like there could be about 8 patrons in there at a time if they were all standing up. Our cottage is not far past there on the shore in Aura.

By Michael Du Long (Mikie) on Sunday, March 26, 2006 - 11:00 pm:

Seismic Pirate, What kind of a day are you having? I hope the seas are smooth today. I enjoy your comments and am learning from your postings.

By Seismic Pirate (Marc) on Sunday, March 26, 2006 - 11:13 pm:

Marsha,
They do fit about 8 patrons, standing up:)

I believe the Bella only serves 2 kinds of sandwiches-ham N cheese and meatloaf, pizza, and chips. That's not alot to choose from, but its closer than anything else, the sandwiches are hot, very big and if I remember correctly, they are served on homemade bread.
bon appetit

By Seismic Pirate (Marc) on Sunday, March 26, 2006 - 11:27 pm:

Mikie,
Its been a quiet day, weather-wise. However, my super computer has not been so super today. Failed disks, tape drive communication problems and now I might also have a bad batch of tapes. It has been one of those days where you think so hard your eyes hurt. I keep thinking 17 days to go...

By Michael Du Long (Mikie) on Monday, March 27, 2006 - 12:25 am:

Marc, Hope tomorrow is better, just bought some strawberries from Meijers they look good, when I was a kid the only fruit you could fresh was apples or oranges and occaisionally an orange. times sure have changed.
