Today's shot from 8 years ago, when the Pasty Cam was brand new, reminds us that Pasty Central itself wasn't a new website - it had been around for a couple of years, with occasional pictures of the residents at Still Waters celebrating one of their favorite foods. Just in March of '98 it became a regular feature, where people soon found out they could see something new everyday from the land of snow and pasties.
The smiling lady with the "I Love Pasties!" T-shirt is Kathryn Sullivan, our oldest resident at Still Waters at the time. Later that year Pasty Central would televise Kathryn's 100th birthday on the web. We had such an outpouring of birthday greetings, which you can still read back there in the Archives (a little more of that Recycled Internet:o)
On that third day of the new "Keweenaw Pasty Cam" (see yesterday's What'sUP for that story), the focus on this Home for the Aged in Calumet began to emerge. After all, Pasty Central was born as an Internet fund-raising project, just one of many projects in its 2 decades of service to the Copper Country. Later this month we'll have more to say about the 'Big Picture' at Still Waters, and the role the 'Pasty' project has played in recent years.
to be continued...
