March comes to a close, the month which brings the hope of Spring and new life. We also hold in our hearts memories of our loved ones and friends that have departed from this earth, so we pause and recall them now:

In memory of E.Gary Curtin, beloved husband and best friend, on his birthday....with love forever.

Sorry to here of the passing of Manila Gipp. A friend of my
mothers (who passed over in her 95th year) and many many
others. She once gave the original owner of our cottage (Reverend
Lucas) some furniture that was surplus from the hospital in 1936.
We still use it. Got to date from 100+ years ago. Would somebody
pleae refresh my memory of her relationship to George Gipp? Until
just a few years ago , Manila had a birthday party at the Honold/
Kusts place towards the west end of 5 mile point beach.

I memory of SGT. Edward L. Kolka, E5 United States Army Company D, 1st Battalion, 26th Infantry, who was killed in action March 2, 1968 in Lia Khe Vietnam. Dearly missed by his family and friends.

Ida & Ewald Marks, Ellen & Hubert Jones, Jean & Bob Thomsen, Herman Lange, Mike Mickelson, Aili Mickelson, Clarence & Aini Johnson and all the rest of my family who have gone home.

will be sorely missed in the Jacobsville community.

In memory of LT Hobey Baker Who was killed just after November 11, 1918. He was an All American hockey player from Princeton who joined the US Army Air Service in 1917. In celebration of the end of the war he took his plane up for one last ride before coming home and while trying to do a "candle" which is flying straight up until you stall, he lost control and crashed. This week college hockey's best player will recieve the Award given in his name.

Remembering Jo Juntunen and wonderful times at her cottage in Twin Lakes where we lucky kids got to visit her and our aunt Eleanor Huhta.

I miss my Dad too. It's been 9 long months without him. The UP was his favorite place on the planet...where he felt safest, and best. I'd give up 5 years of my life to have just one more day with him.

Remembering Judy St. Andre. Aunt Judy was a long time resident of Lac La Belle. She was a superb baker, had a great laugh, and an outstanding personality. Aunt Judy will be missed by many.

Dan our prayers are with you on this sad day.May both Mike and Bernard rest in peace..As a child I new and played ball with Bernard and Mike was one of the biggest sports fans in the Torch Lake area.

Oh my God! What a great shot. I'll have to save this one, that's for sure.
Thankfully we're celebrating my parents' 55th anniversary today rather than sending out memorials about them. I am forever grateful. My dad almost died 3 years ago from a heart attack so every year is a blessing. He doesn't have a lot of pep, but he's here and we're so happy about that.
I will remember both sets of my grandparents though. They are always thought of and I still miss them. They are Pete and Irene Normand, and Ed and Eva Durocher. Miss you guys.

Like Sarah in Ohio, We will miss Aunt Judy, but I'd like to think she's with uncle Al and all the rest now. Have many great memories and she had a great life, make's me smile when I think about her!

Our father, Alfred Beauchene, passed on 20 years ago, during the month of March. He spent his whole life in the Calumet area and was very active in the community. He is still missed very much by his family and all that knew him.

For my dad, John Campana...it's been 40 years, but the memories are alive.

In memory of my wife Emily Mongeau who passed one year ago today, and my sister-in-law Mary Maki who passed on the 26th..Till we meet again....

In memory of my mother Katherine Stanton Du Long from Houghton who fell in love with Joseph Cy Du Long from Hubbell and were married 74 years ago on April 2,1932, the day after Dad turned 21. Dad died ten years ago and mom joined him and my sister Prisila four years later. Also my cousin Franklin Du Long who passed away in Vietnam. We have lost a lot of cousins, and there are just a few of us left, I would like to remember all of our neighbors in Hubbell who have passed on.

In memory of Paul Kotaniemi. He was my favorite uncle. Had a real good sense of humor. Had many good times picking stawberries down on the farm. Also snack time was homemade root beer, warm homemade bread, and or course, homemade strawberry jam. He is loved and missed by many. Rest in peace, Uncle Paul.

In memory of my grandmother Lulu Pyykkonen who passed away in 1977 while enjoying a sauna, my grandfather to who I never knew Arvid Pyykkonen. My father William who passed away one year ago and my mother Margaret who died in 1985, I miss you both and think of you whenever the morning sun warms the cool air. To my sister-in-law, Sharon Kind,47 years young, who lost her battle with cancer on my birthday this year, March 3rd. Such a beautiful lady and such a sad way to go.

My cousin, his son, Joey was always known as JimmyGaryTommyJoey! He did it to us all.

Was so sorry to hear of the recent passing of Joe Houle---what a great human being. He had such a wonderful smile and always had a funny story to tell about the Lauren Grove. I still have a chair that he reupholstered for my Mom, Dorothy Salani. I would walk by the shop everyday on my way to school and he would always have a cheery "greeting' from the door way. I always thought the house next door was so unique with all the brick exterior--also remember the old gate in front. God Bless the family.

Fran, I was a friend of Rickey Benson when he lived in Royal Oak, many years ago. He was Whitey's son and they moved to Tawas in the fifties, is he related to you. I know he died quiet some time ago. Mrs. Benson was a great lady and she was Rickey's grandmother. There was a pond that was by the railroad tracks that was named Bensons' pond, I think.

He was from Menominee. Both were very important to me and I still miss them both so much, but I know I will see them again.

Gee,I am not sure if Rickey Benson is a relative or not. The Bensons who were related to us were children of Mayme(Mary)Benson.Her husband passed away when her boys were young and she raised them by herself even tho she had very very bad eye sight. I was young when we used to go there.She had about 5 boys(Francis, Leonard,Bernard,?and?! AS far as I know none of them had nick names.I don't remember a pond either.Just that they lived on the end of the road on to of this ridge.I wish I could remember the name of the street or area they lived in. Maybe by a ballfield? Was there an area called Lynwood near Hubbell? The name comes to mind.

Just wanted to add another message to note Joe Houle's passing. Joe was a friend of the family and I'd konwn him all my life.
