Brian and Shawn Malone have been exploring the ice caves in Munising and brought back several impressive close-up views of an un-named falls. In their Guest Gallery, they've captioned the second shot as an ice curtain … perfect description of those sheets of frozen water. I'm not sure what I find more fascinating in these photos, the blue hue imbedded in the ice or the many nooks and crannies they reveal, with the fallen snow caught and held suspended on the edge.

Not much snow was falling eight years ago when the Pasty Cam was beginning its second week. We continue highlighting the story behind those early pictures in What'sUP.

Beautiful! Wouldn't want to be standing there when the spring thaw starts!

Those "curtains" will come down hard come melting time!

Gorgeous! I'm really ready for some spring and summer pictures though. However, the beauty of these is breathtaking!

I want to see them when it's melting.

Beautiful pictures. The waterfalls should be something to see come the Spring warm up.

I was out on my snowshoes by Redridge a few years back and saw a couple of brave folks climbing some of the ice formations along the cliffs. The colors picked out in the ice make a beautiful sight even more so!

On another note... I made myself a pile of pasties last night. Hoping they've turned out well - I'll find out at lunchtime today!

Simply beautiful. Reminds me of those aqua blue mints in the clear celophane wrap. We always called them Michigan mints. I think I am going to have to go and find some. Anyone know if they still make them?

By Seismic Pirate (Marc) on Wednesday, March 8, 2006 - 01:25 pm:

Mel,
I was out snowshoeing Redridge last winter. People are still ice-climbing those formations and they are still beautiful. Some of the land there has been bought up and a gate installed at the trail just South of the river. We went in anyway, since by the lack of tracks in the snow, nobody had been back there in at least weeks. There was a house off the trail, but the area below the cliffs was much as it has always been. We captured some great photos and spent about an hour watching four youngsters ice-climbing.

Lorelei,
Although I'm not familiar with "Michigan Mints," I did Google it
and found this URL...

I see the statues at Tech are knocked down. When you see them live it's awesome to contemplate that all that beautiful work is so temporary.
