Good morning. Looks like a cold one in the UP.

Good morning. Its a cold one down here today.

By NKR (Nkr) on Saturday, February 18, 2006 - 09:11 am:

Good morning from cold Mishawaka IN. 3° here this morning. -11° wind chill, but Mr. Sun is trying to come out. Hey Sur5er, have you got your longjohns on? Are you getting any snow over there?

By jmac (Jillann) on Saturday, February 18, 2006 - 09:44 am:

8 below in Western Illinois but no wind at the moment-no snow just ice

By WishingIWasInDaUP (Sur5er) on Saturday, February 18, 2006 - 09:56 am:

NKR, It's a balmy 2 degrees out right now...or -15 degrees with the wind chill. Now this is what I call winter, eh :) It's been snowing, since early this morning...but not that much accumulation, because it's mostly just light flurries. Let it snow...let it snow...let it snow :)

Looks like the snow storm coming out of Texas is gonna miss us completely. Hey Margaret and Ms Katie, I thought you were sending that snow up here ;) I think ya'll need some snow dance lessons from Charlotte.

By WishingIWasInDaUP (Sur5er) on Saturday, February 18, 2006 - 10:04 am:

NKR, I almost forgot...yes, I have changed into some of my severe winter gear. I traded in my flip flops today, for my fuzzy slippers...with socks of course. And it may be time for me to put on a hoodie, next time I take the doggies outside ;)
Heck, I used to do traffic stops during the Michigan winters, with my short sleeve uniform shirt on...because my jacket always seemed to be in the back of the squad car. And the best type of winter insulation, believe it or not, were pantyhose...although I don't think any of the male officers would admit it ;)

By Ms. Katie (Mskatie) on Saturday, February 18, 2006 - 10:24 am:

Sur5er, maybe Margaret and I can do a snow dance down here to help you out. We have about 42 degrees right now and that's unusual for the coast. Our dance may bring on snow again down here and that's only once a century. We had a beautiful 4-5" Christmas Eve 2004 and will have to wait another 100 years. There are 2 beautiful books out about that snow. Enjoy whatever you do get, cause I really do miss the snow.

By NKR (Nkr) on Saturday, February 18, 2006 - 10:58 am:

Sur5er, you crack me up!

By NKR (Nkr) on Saturday, February 18, 2006 - 11:10 am:

Does anyone know whats going on at MTU trail webcam. Maybe a race of somekind?

By PAUL (Pungvait) on Saturday, February 18, 2006 - 11:35 am:

it's so cold in the Keweenaw that the politicians have their hands in their own pockets today.

By JanieT (Bobbysgirl) on Saturday, February 18, 2006 - 11:42 am:

NKR, maybe what you are seeing is the John Dee snowmobile benefit/charity ride?

By Azfinn (Azfinn) on Saturday, February 18, 2006 - 11:47 am:

Here in AZ we have broken our record for number of days with no rain -- 122 days so far. Wish some of that moisture back home could fall here-either rain or snow would be great. They predict we may be in for a tough fire season with everything so terribly dry, even for the desert. Perhaps we need to call upon Heikki Lunta....

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Saturday, February 18, 2006 - 11:53 am:

Paul, That is such a good one. I loved it. It's very cold here today too. We woke up to 12 below. However, here in MN the politicians ALWAYS have their hands in our pockets.

And this to babyseal, there IS nothing like the Big Mac, but that Portage Lift Bridge looks darn inviting when you're returning after being gone for months. We love it and get excited seeing it every time.

Snowmobiles ... on the Tech Ski trails? No way!
What you see there (from the MTU Athletics Calendar) is:

Quote:

Sat, Feb 18
Women's Nordic Skiing hosts CCSA Regional Championships, TBA (Tech Trails)
Sat, Feb 18
Men's Nordic Skiing hosts CCSA Regional Championships, TBA (Tech Trails)
Sun, Feb 19

FRNash, well excuse me! I had no idea NKR meant the ski trails when she implied MTU trails! I'll let you inform her next time. Sorry!

OOooops, so I replied to the wrong post! Probably 'cuz NKR's had scrolled off my monitor. S'cuse me for the clarification!

Afternoon All.
Lots of chatter for a Sat. Good to see everyone having freindly banter. Just looked at the Bridge Cam and it is snowing and blowing so hard you can hardly make out the Bridge. (Portage Bridge)
Yes Big Mac is something to see. Traveling you know that there is still about 5 hours of driving until you actually get home. So I totally agree that when the Portage Bridge comes into view you can finally breathe that sigh of relief that you are back home. Pizza and a beer at the Ambassador make the journey complete. Enjoy the day everyone.

Oh by the way, I can't remember who asked for the pasty crust recipe, but there's something I thought about after looking at my fridge (just happen to be making pasties today). Anyway, when I was in Copper Harbor a couple of years ago I was checking out the refrigerator magnets (always have to get one or two) and there is one with the recipe for pasties on it, including the crust. So, next time you're in the area, have a look around and I'm sure you'll find it.

My husband just heard on WJR; Detroit's far reaching radio station, about the 6 foot tall snowball at Winter Carnival last weekend at MTU. They also mentioned Pasty Cam. I'm sure you'll have many additional viewers in the near future. Let then see how beautiful the UP really is and the beautiful heritage of many of the original family's that still reside there.

By Margo (Margo) on Saturday, February 18, 2006 - 08:31 pm:

P.S The show is called 'The Internet Advisor', it airs on WJR (760) in SE lower Michigan on Saturdays from 8:00 - 10:00 PM.

Experts are Gary Baker, Foster Grant and Ed Rudel.
If they don't have the answer, they will find it...............

By Mary Drew at Pasty Central (Mdrew) on Saturday, February 18, 2006 - 10:42 pm:

Hey Sur5er and Charlotte61,

My hubby, Mom and I just passed through your stomping grounds today and are spending the night in Dry Ridge, KY. I was going to wave to you when we passed by, but couldn't remember where in Indiana you are! We're on our way south to Myrtle Beach, SC for a few days, then on to my brother's in Brunswick, GA. After a week or so there...we're off to Florida to catch a few rays of sunshine! :-> We were sure glad to have bare roads most of the way today.
So come Monday, I'll be back at the Pasty Cam helm, but doing it remotely from afar! See you then...

Hey yall I've got a question....ok I happened to get a page from the Upper Peninsula Business Today ...it's a paper.....but yet i can't find a thing about it on the net as how you subscribe to it and such. Anyone know what I am talking about. I happened to get the pages from my work study since they had articles that caught my attention and now I am curious about this paper.

Mary, Hope you, hubby and your mom have a fantastic vacation :) I'm in Beverly Shores and Charlotte is in Mishawaka. Mishawaka is the midway point on the tollway...as soon as you see the Mishawaka water tower, you have about an hour drive, to either the Ohio border, or Porter County :)

By Mary Drew at Pasty Central (Mdrew) on Sunday, February 19, 2006 - 10:08 pm:

Sur5er,
Thanks for the good wishes for our trip. We were very lucky to have avoided all the sloppy, icky winter driving weather and are hunkered down for 5 nights in Myrtle Beach. Temps are supposed to be in the 50 to 60° range, which is fine for us, just coming from the frigid temps of the Keweenaw! :-)

By WishingIWasInDaUP (Sur5er) on Sunday, February 19, 2006 - 10:43 pm:

Mary, Glad to hear that you made it safe and sound to Myrtle Beach. 60 degrees? Sounds like beautiful tee shirt weather to me ;)

In true Michigan style, hubby was out on the deck this weekend, barbequing in the frigid weather :)
