Well, that is quite the pile of snow there. Robert you sure are an early bird. Morning everybody. It's supposed to be 11 below tomorrow morning and the weekend is looking bleak. Give me snow over this awful cold any day.

I am just starting a new mystery which takes place at Copper
University in the U.P. I have to figure the author, Lou Allin, is
alluding to Mich. Tech. I always wonder with fiction like this
how close it comes to reality. It looks like our protagonist is in
the English Dept., and there is an early statement that the school
has 75 students majoring in English. I wonder about that. I can
see where the school would have an English Dept., but would it
have 75 majors? Why would anyone go to Mich. Tech and major
in English?

I know this site has plenty of alums of Mich. Tech. What's the
story on the English Dept. there? Oh, maybe I should mention
the dept. is already down to 74 majors after a young lady falls
(or is pushed maybe?) out of the six-story 1890s Collier

Bright and sunny here in the CC today. Although I heard that the snow is really flyin in Calumet. It will always amaze me how that happens here in the Copper Country. Anyway, I hope everyone has a great Wednesday afternoon.

Wanted to leave a brief message in loving remembrance of my Grandfather, Dick Wiland. He loved the Copper Country as a second home, and although he wasn't able to make it to the harbor but a few times in the past decade, a part of his heart will always belong to the Keweenaw. An avid fisherman, he enjoyed peaceful afternoons on Lake Lily searching for northern pike. It quickly became a family competition--to see who could catch the latest and greatest prize. His legacy is one I am proud to carry on, and I will always think of him as I journey to Copper Harbor. Go in peace, Grandpa Wiland. I will always remember you as I breathe in the northern air...and take in the pristine beauty that is the Keweenaw.

Lesley, What beautiful words you have for your Grampa. I don't know him but I think he would feel honored that you would say such beautiful things. Sounds like you had a special relationship with him. I can feel it as I read your words. It made a lump in my throat.

Lesleydayooper, What a wonderful tribute to your grandfather. What a wonderful man he must have been, to be blessed with a wonderful and greatful granddaughter, such as you.
