Good morning everyone :) It started snowing here, on the southern shores of Lake Michigan, about a half hour ago. Nothing much...just flurries...but I am excited that for once, that the precipitation isn't rain.

Sorry if I ruffled any feathers yesterday on cam notes page,I did not mean for it to get political. Snow here in the bluegrass today!

By WishingIWasInDaUP (Sur5er) on Saturday, February 4, 2006 - 12:40 pm:

John And Anne Kentucky, I don't think you ruffled any feathers. I think everyone has a different view, regarding the change in weather/temps. Anywho, when I finally got my computer up and running today (after three days of it being on the blink), I thoroughly enjoyed reading yesterday's posts, with everyone's different perspectives/ideas.
Now can you imagine how boring yesterday's posts would have been if everyone had agreed? A yawn, eh :)

Charlotte, Nope, the snow hasn't even begun to cover my back deck yet. You sure we're doing the snow dance right?

VERY IMPORTANT-- particularly for all you bird feeders and bird lovers!!
A notice from the DNR and other bird organizations: They are requesting a moratorium on bird feeding for 2 weeks! There is a serious outbreak of salmonellosis affecting many of our usual feeder visitors! This outbreak started in the western UP and has already spread down the NLP (Probably down into Wisconsin also?) to about Bay City. (Surely it will be here in SE Mich. anytime!) They request we remove our feeders and disinfect with a bleach soulution and clean up on the ground under the feeders. Clean and disinfect your bird baths.
This a particularly virulent outbreak and is spread mostly from bird feeders (among other sources).
For more on this go to, (I hope I got this correct!?): Birds dying up north, you may have to enter your date of birth and zip code. Or go to: Northern Michigan Birding click on Forums, under "General Topics", click on "General Chat" and find "bird feeding moratorium" info. There are links there also.

I heard about the bird feeder moratorium on the news last night. Russ, sounds like you are qualified to know what you're talking about.

Speaking of birds, I haven't seen any ruffled feathers on pasty cam in a long time. I think everyone is being remarkably civil! We're just a bunch of good friends getting together (although good friends are bound to disagree).

Anyone see Grizzly Man on the Discovery channel last night? It's on again tonight at 8. Scary stuff, especially since I see some of myself in him!

Still raining in the Flint area, nice out though.

Sur5er, No snow here in Mishawaka, IN yet. Just watched the weather channel radar and it looked like St. Joe County is in the clear spot right now. Lots of green to the east and a little to the west. What's the deal? Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Snow.

By NKR (Nkr) on Saturday, February 4, 2006 - 04:58 pm:

Hey Charlotte, Sur5er, ITS SNOWING, ITS SNOWING!

By Margo (Margo) on Saturday, February 4, 2006 - 05:13 pm:

Yooper, It sure looks like you are favoring Seattle tomorrow. Can we 'Steelers' have some equal time with your play of the game?

By WishingIWasInDaUP (Sur5er) on Saturday, February 4, 2006 - 05:53 pm:

NKR and Charlotte, The snow stopped here...but there is some serious wind coming off the lake...making the roads a little slippery, with what little snow we got. Definately got a nice shine on the roads. When I was headed home from Valparaiso, I saw a car spin out on route 49. Yikes. So drive careful, if you have to head out anywhere.

By Russell E. Emmons (Russemmons) on Saturday, February 4, 2006 - 09:32 pm:

Thanks Charlie, Mary, or whoever set up the URLs on my posting to be "clickable" I still don't know how that is done, and I see others doing it all the time!

Mary says: You're welcome Russ! I just sent you an email with some tips on making a "clickable" URL.

By k j (Kathiscc) on Sunday, February 5, 2006 - 09:10 am:

Mary, could you possibly send those to me as well?

By Margaret, Amarillo TX (Margaret) on Sunday, February 5, 2006 - 09:48 am:

Mornin', no snow here--Dallas is back home so we won't see snow this year.
