By P&G,TN (Gormfrog) on Wednesday, February 1, 2006 - 05:32 am:

Do you sense a beckoning, deepening cold, an absence, a final stillness, beyond which there is no more beyond ? If you are uneasy, step back, tomorrow Groundhog Day will bring a pure white light, a terrible clarity to these clarion warnings. It will restore the primal hues that have been bleached from the canvas of our civilized existence, securing answers to questions we have not yet learned to ask.

Morning!

How I love this site! There is just a bit of everything here! :-)

By Marsha, Genesee/Aura (Marsha) on Wednesday, February 1, 2006 - 07:21 am:

What're you guys all doing up so early?!!!

By Bill Denning (Parpagayo) on Wednesday, February 1, 2006 - 07:55 am:

Lots of early posters today.

I have a Marquette question -- could anyone suggest a restaurant that would be open for lunch on Sundays? Something like Slim's in Mohawk or the Evergreen in Calumet would be great.

Also, any suggestions on what to do while waiting for a flight? Perhaps a drive through the Presque Isle park?

Thanks for any ideas.

By Mary Lou Curtin (Marylou) on Wednesday, February 1, 2006 - 08:28 am:

The Landmark Hotel has a wonderful, elegent brunch on Sunday...I think their bar is open for great sandwiches also.....Presque Isle Park is not open in the winter but you can get in as far as the breakwater and the drive around the downtown harbor to the park is great. They are upgrading their water front with new condos. Wish Escanaba would come up with a similar plan......no condos here.

P&G sounds like Mr. Wheatman.

By It's Me (Yooper) on Wednesday, February 1, 2006 - 09:11 am:

Maija,

Indeed they do! I think I know who our Wheatman is. My lips are sealed, though. I must get back to my studies. Have a great day!!

Bill Denning,

Steer & Stein Steak House

3515 U.S. 41 West, Marquette

Delicious!!

By It's Me (Yooper) on Wednesday, February 1, 2006 - 09:36 am:

Bill,

I highly suggest you visit www.marquette.org for a list of places to visit/things to do. Have a great trip!

By Erica - Florida Keys (Erica) on Wednesday, February 1, 2006 - 09:48 am:

Good morning all. I look forward to this site each day. Good conversation and beautiful pictures. And it gives me all sorts of info about places to see, things to do next time UP.

By Ms. Katie (Mskatie) on Wednesday, February 1, 2006 - 10:15 am:

Sorry folks but the messages from P&G,TN creeps me out. Terms used are not happy ones. Learned in writing classes that words give a feeling. ""Deepning cold", final stillness". "terrible clarity" and "no more beyond" do not give me good feelings. For what it's worth. :o

By It's Me (Yooper) on Wednesday, February 1, 2006 - 10:21 am:

Ms. Katie,

I, too, am ''creeped out'' by their message. It's their annual groundhog day message. I'm quite certain we only hear from them about this time every year. :)

By Fran in GA (Francesinga) on Wednesday, February 1, 2006 - 10:21 am:

Ms Katie, I get the same feeling reading P&G's notes.

By Uncle Chuck @ Little Betsy (Unclechuck) on Wednesday, February 1, 2006 - 10:47 am:

Hey P&G, Bring it on!
You sound like a man that would complain if he was hung with a new rope!

By JanieT (Bobbysgirl) on Wednesday, February 1, 2006 - 11:06 am:

I didn't think there was any other message about Groundhog Day other than 6 more weeks of winter or not.

By lz (Llamamama) on Wednesday, February 1, 2006 - 11:14 am:

Re: P&G:
Yeow, I must be really off of center [no surprise there :->]! I was enjoying the literary picture painted by their graphic verbiage and interpreted the whole focus as a joke on very frivolous [fluff & stuff] holiday!

I second the "Steer & Stein Steak House"!

By Paul Oesterle (Paulwebbtroll) on Wednesday, February 1, 2006 - 11:56 am:

6 more weeks of winter or 1-1/2 months till spring!!!! Sure has been a wierd winter here. Wind is out of the south at 10 MPH and the sun is shining right now. Bring on Ol Punxtawannee or whatever his name is!!! Happy 1st of February every one!!

By Kelly Marshall (Kelly) on Wednesday, February 1, 2006 - 12:08 pm:

Has everyone heard of the worm set to activate on infected computers on February 3rd? It goes by several names ( W32Blackmal.E ) You can read about it on CNN.com under Technology. Very vicious worm that overwrites files on your machine so they can never be recovered.
There is a removal tool on the Symantec website. As it can activate on the 3rd of every month it is a good idea to run it now.

By Beverly, San Jose (Beverly) on Wednesday, February 1, 2006 - 02:41 pm:

Does anyone really care if it is Groundhog Day? As for the cryptic message...not worth my time reading.

By Barbara Nelson (Barb) on Wednesday, February 1, 2006 - 03:27 pm:

Regarding the new worm ... it's just another reason I LOVE my
Mac!!! Most viruses (viri?) work on the Windows platform.

By WishingIWasInDaUP (Sur5er) on Wednesday, February 1, 2006 - 06:48 pm:

Hi Bev...glad to see that you are feeling better and have joined us :) Welcome back (((((HUGS)))))

Ms.Katie and Fran: ditto on that.
Barb, Yep I heard about that virus too. And wouldn't you know it, my Windows application crashed today. Took me twelve hours to reinstall XP...and luckily I didn't lose anything. Whew!

By Suzy Lofquist (Suzymn41) on Wednesday, February 1, 2006 - 10:08 pm:

Bill,

The Sweetwater Cafe on N. 3rd St in Marquette is a wonderful breakfast place!

By Nate (Nalwine) on Thursday, February 2, 2006 - 02:10 am:

The hashbrowns at the Sweetwater Cafe are the best!

By Beverly, San Jose (Beverly) on Thursday, February 2, 2006 - 04:47 am:

Thank you Renee, still have some major worries, but I hope to come up smiling.
