Now this is one for the "how'd that happen?" category. Bill Haller is used to feeding the birds around his Bete Grise home, but setting a trap line is another story all together! I'm betting even this little critter surprised himself, to be sitting on the inside of this feeder looking out. He must be some kind of "Houdini" squirrel to have managed such a feat. So, Mr. Bill, was this advertised as one of those "squirrel proof" feeders? And how about telling us how you managed to get him out of captivity?

I feed wild birds also, sometimes hawks visit my feeders, would anyone know if hawks stop by my feeders for the bird seed or perhaps trying to get a wild rabbit that also visit my feeders? Or maybe for both reasons? There's plenty for everyone! When the hawks stop by, it's quite the sight!

Better not eat too much or be like the hand in the cookie jar and too fat for the getting out!

This is from usedtobeayoopers husband, wishtIwasayooper, we have a neverending battle with those little red buggers. They wreck the feeders as well as make a mess of the feed. Me and Mr. .22 try to keep up, but its no use. Brent, the grays and fox sqirrels are a whole lot bigger and tastier. Have a good day everyone.

Looks like a picture you could use on a greeting card. You gotta love the little critters.
Sunny and chilly here in Columbus, Ohio.
Wish I was back in Bootjack enjoying a cup of coffe and some nissu--fish fry at the Dreamland would also be nice. Yum.

The snow looks wonderful and I'm homesick. 45 here already.

Dreaming of being back at the farm in Calumet... Make mine a steaming cup of strong, black coffee and some rieska fresh from the oven and slathered with butter...

Janie - the hawks may be hoping to get a rabbit but, more likely, hoping to get the birds that are feeding at your feeders! We live in the suburbs of Chicago and hawks regularly visit the trees next to our feeders to snatch a songbird. The owls here do the same. Everybody's got to eat!

How hilarious :) Almost looks like the squirrel is in one of those hamster exercise balls.
Usedtobeayooper, You're so right about squirrels having a bit of attitude. When I lived in Michigan, I used to feed the squirrels a cob of corn every morning. On the mornings when I wasn't up exactly at the crack of dawn, to feed them, they would stand in front of my bedroom window, and 'yell' at me.

Dotsie, Fish fry at Dreamland sounds wonderful to me. When we were younger, the bus used to drive us out to Dreamland (I think it cost a quarter to ride the bus) and we'd swim all day. That was back in the good old days when it wasn't private property and we could walk up to the end of the road and buy some treats at the little treat shop there. Those were the days. Great shot Bill.

Deb.....Dreamland has always been "Private" property......always belonged to the Sarazin family..still does. (I'd guess about 150yrs).. They have always been great about sharing that wonderful dock with folks...especially boaters. There is nothing better than to jump in the boat on hot summer evening and drive over to Dreamland for a fishfry and to meet the neighbors & friends who are in town for vacation. I always thought of Jim as the "Mayor of Bootjack".....great family!!

I think used to be a yooper would not
approve--I actually had a squirrel feeder--one
of those corn cob contraptions attached to the
tree at our former house. It afforded me many
hours of entertainment, but it did not keep the
squirrels from raiding the bird feeder...

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Saturday, February 25, 2006 - 02:00 pm:

Hey Mary Lou, I know it was always private, but when we were kids (Sally was in my class) we could go there all the time to picnic and swim. It was great. Now I think there are other people involved besides the Sarazins. At least that's what I've heard. You really can't go down there to just swim and picnic to your heart's content. Those were the good old days. It was so much fun taking the bus there to go swimming. I love eating there too. My mom's class goes there every year for their class reunion. My mom graduated with Sally's mom. Anyway, the memories are great!

By Linda Corrigan (Cook) on Sunday, February 26, 2006 - 12:15 am:

People still go down to the dock at Dreamland and fish. I would think you can still use the place for swimming. The Sarazins still own the place, with no one else. Jim and Glady are the Best!! They now rent places out there and you could stay for a week or so and swim all you want. And come to the hotel for fish fry it is the best!!!
