Mornin' Everyone. Looks like the weather man hit the nail on the head for UP weather! I woke up to the sound of snow plows. Now that is how winter should be. Finally some snow for the statue builders at Tech.

Have a great day everyone!

Good Morning All!!! This is a great day for us because our son, (D.J.) came home to Ca. after 4 months in Iraq. His wife and two sons are very excited to have him home. Sorry he didn't have time to chat with us here but there is so much work to be done there. Thanks to all who have had kind words for him and us. Have GREAT WEEK!!!

By lz (Llamamama) on Tuesday, January 24, 2006 - 12:13 pm:

Ilovelucy2, thank you for a bright spot in the day! Happy for all the family!

ILoveLucy2, So glad to hear that DJ is home, safe and sound. It was such an honor to chat with him, while he was protecting our country :)
Lorelei, Yep that is the sound of winter...waking up to the sound of the snow plow coming down the street.
Mr. Bill, perhaps I should enter the snowball roll up contest, with my neice. We still chuckle about that poor neighbor we blocked in with that huge snowball we made :)

By stix (Stixoutwest) on Tuesday, January 24, 2006 - 12:21 pm:

Hi all. Just home from the UP. Getting up there was a treat....cancelled flight out of Minni...rerouting and then the final 2 hours in a crammed Suburban to finally get to Houghton...only to have my bags misplaced for two days!! Ahh, travel to the UP!! But it was well worth it. Lots of fun. The Heikkenpaiva celebration was really something. Great job. If someone tells you they have very little snow up there, believe them! The lake and parts of the canal are wide open. It's unreal.
Can someone tell me how to go back and read old What'sUP conversations? I can get the old Cam Notes but not this forum!
Thanks!

stix,

You can get to each day's What'sUP page, right from the original day's page. Right under the daily Pasty Cam picture there's a link for that day's What'sUP.
If you're interested in seeing what has been posted in the last 24 hours, on The Pasty Cam page (where the whole week smaller pictures are), on the upper right side of the page, you'll see these items:

Cam notes
Just click on the blue oval where it says "Cam Notes in the last 24 hours".

stix,
Just open up any of the daily pictures and directly under the picture of the day will be the What'sUP for that day. That is how I do it anyway.

Boy oh boy Sur5er, you should see the snow flying here now. It is something else. Bet the hubby does the drive way twice today.

Welcome home DJ. I bet you are a happy Mamma, Ilovelucy2. I am happy for your whole family.

To gaze up and out at hundreds of square miles of unoccupied space, even for a few moments, allows us to catch our breath, and though unseen, we are starting now to feel..GROUNDHOG DAY

By Seismic Pirate (Marc) on Tuesday, January 24, 2006 - 04:23 pm:

Stix,
Sorry to hear you had a rough trip in! I've had sooo many problems getting from Minnie to CMx it's not funny. Spent 6 hours being driven from Green Bay to Houghton, courtesy of Mesaba last winter when they overbooked by 9 people on the flight home. The important thing is just getting to the Copper Country whatever it takes!!

By Lulubelle/Hancock (Lulubelle) on Tuesday, January 24, 2006 - 04:27 pm:

The reserves, who have been in Iraq this past year, are coming home tomorrow. They will be in Baraga first and having a Welcome Home. Good luck to all of them, including our neighbor and another friend of my husband's.

Snow is really coming down today but very greasy driving. Take care on the roads.

By Seismic Pirate (Marc) on Tuesday, January 24, 2006 - 06:05 pm:

Hey, I just read the information about the MTU record attempts. If they want to register 3,200 people in 45 minutes, that's 1.2 people per second.

Sounds like that might be a world record for registering people. I wonder if anybody ran the numbers b4 scheduling the registration time...

Concerning "Blast from the Past"...I still miss the magic of Dan Urbanski's photos.Thank you for bringing his art to us again. Rest in peace and beauty, Dan.

Mary Drew
Thank you for your help.

You are quite welcome, Jerry! :->

By Charlotte, Mishawaka, IN (Charlotte61) on Tuesday, January 24, 2006 - 08:34 pm:

Good evening from Mishawaka, IN.

ILoveLucy2, So glad your son, DJ, is back in the US. Thanks to DJ for serving.

Had a little snow this am. About 8:00 it really started coming down hard and covering the ground. By 9:30 it was finished snowing and what was on the ground was gone. May get some this evening. But rest of week sounds like a repeat-no snow.
