Good morning from the GM VEC tower in Warren.

Check out Michigan Tech's web sight. They now have 10 web cams. Broomball cams, statue cam and another bridge cam.

Good morning everyone...and nighty night to those who worked throughout the night.
I had a wonderful phone conversation with my daughter last night. She said she was reading a book that mentioned Copper Harbor, and it reminded her of the Mother's Day we spent in Keweenaw...the huge icebergs we saw in Copper Harbor...the eagles we saw from Brockway...and of course the bear cub that was sunning itself on the side of the road, when we were enroute to Hancock :)

Sur5er:

Sounds like a wonderful conversation.
Memories. Thank God for them--especially
the good ones.

What's the name of the book? Not many out
there that include Copper Harbor. Was it a
Nevada Barr mystery?

Good evening from Mishawaka, IN.

Sur5er....thanks....I had a great night's sleep! Or is that a great day's sleep. Only got a couple of hours yesterday....friends from Michigan stopped by unexpectedly....what a lovely treat it was to see them. Even if they are crazy enough to come to Florida in winter when they could be enjoying that wonderful snow! Oh well, each to their own. :) Make mine SNOW!

Kosk, I don't remember the name of the book. I do know that it is a romance book...Letters To Sam...something like that. I'll get the name of it from her, next time I chat with her ;)

It has just been one of those months with cases, and dealing with Indiana politics (sigh), and to pick up the phone and have my daughter talking about da UP and home, was so refreshing. Gotta think positive, eh.

It's like when you post that you are headed home...and come Monday, I know I am in for a treat with your post about going home :)

Susan, Glad to hear that you had a nice night's ...or should we say, 'day's' sleep. And no, to this day, I can't figure out why people head south during the winter, when they have the perfect winter weather up north ;)
There are actually people up here that are happy that we are having a warmer winter, without snow. As you can tell, I am not part of that camp :)

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Tuesday, January 24, 2006 - 07:37 am:

To WishingIWasInDaUP: I bet the book she was reading was "Sam's Letters To Jennifer" by James Patterson. How excited I was while I was reading it and came across the information about Copper Harbor. When you're from around there, and very rarely read anything that even mentions it, it sticks out in your mind. It was a wonderful book. I just loved it. So, tell your friend that that's what the name of the book was.

By kosk in Toronto (Koskintoronto) on Tuesday, January 24, 2006 - 08:12 am:

Deb,

Thanks. Patterson is one of my daughter's
favorite writers too, so I'll pass the reference
on to her and try to get my hands on a copy of
it.

Better get to work. Yesterday's election kept
me up late...

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Tuesday, January 24, 2006 - 08:41 am:

Hey Kosk, Was wondering if you're originally FROM the UP and moved to Toronto or if you've always lived in Toronto. Was just wondering which sports teams you're loyal to. I've been away since about '79, but still follow the Lions (I know, I know), Tigers, Pistons and Red Wings. My husband even loves the Red Wings since his beloved North Stars were so rudely moved to Texas. And what's up with you guys electing somebody who is so much like Bush? Have you not SEEN what he's done to this country? Just an observation. I'm not a fan of his in any way, shape or form. Good luck with all of that. I try not to let my political affiliations interfere with my friendships however. To each their own. And that book should be easy to find. James Patterson is larger than life nowadays. He's gotta be my favorite. Tell her to read "Suzanne's Diary for Nicholas" by him also. Great read!

UseToBeAYooper, Yep...that's the name of the book :) I had read it last summer, and had kept meaning to mention it here, but forgot to. I have never came across a book before that mentioned a UP town by name like that.

Kosk, if you get the book for your daughter, don't forget to sent a case of Kleenex with it. My daughter said it was one of those books that made her cry.

And UsedToBeAYooper, I read "Suzanne's Diary For Nicholas" too...that's another great read/cry.

By kosk in Toronto (Koskintoronto) on Wednesday, January 25, 2006 - 05:31 pm:

Dear Deb,

Thanks for the advice about the books. Yes, I
was born in the UP, but then my family moved
downstate to Detroit. However, every summer,
and sometimes at Christmas too, we would
spend time at the family cottage. I love the
place and someday hope to return to live
there. I came to Canada with my husband, a
Canadian citizen (a hold dual), after we
graduated from university. I still go back to the
UP every summer, at Christmas, and any
other chance I get. About football teams--it's
Green Bay for me.
