Good morning everyone! It's about 14 degrees and cloudy here in good old Minnesota. We finally got about 1/2 inch of snow last night. That brings us to an inch this month. And NO below zero temps as of yet. Ya gotta love these kinds of winters.

By Deb Simons (Usedtobeayooper) on Tuesday, January 17, 2006 - 07:43 am:

By the way, it may say 7:45 on my post, but it's really only 6:45 here as we're on CST, not EST. So I'm earlier than I look. lol

By Lorelei (Lorelei) on Tuesday, January 17, 2006 - 08:22 am:

Hey, what happened to the snow we had in the forcast last night? Just a dusting won't do it. We need a lot! Winter Carnival is just around the corner and Heikkinpaiva (sp) is this weekend. Will someone please join me in the snow dance? It is a good day for dancing ;)

By Marsha, Genesee/Aura (Marsha) on Tuesday, January 17, 2006 - 08:29 am:

Ice everywhere down here today. The neighboring schools were closed, but not mine! That's OK, though. It's really not bad driving today in Genesee. The walk leading from my front door was treacherous before salting.

Good Morning all,
I just went to the eagle website and they have an egg. the website is...www.friendsofblackwater.org. Its fun to check on their progress. We have freezing rain here but school is on...

By Marsha, Genesee/Aura (Marsha) on Tuesday, January 17, 2006 - 10:09 am:

I check the same site daily, too, so thanks for the tip! I think I first heard about that eaglecam on pasty cam.

Good morning. Indiana weather for the day: rain...more rain...followed by even more rain. Sigh. I'm with Lorelei...time for some serious snow dancing to start.

Just got a great idea from my Birds & Blooms online newsletter. Take an empty can with one end removed and begin filling it with leftover cooking grease, eggshells, seeds, raisins, etc. When it is full, remove the other end and hang it horizontally from a tree. I've made my own suet before, but not in an empty can. I'm going to try it this way and see if it works to put a string in first, with a little extra length on the bottom of the can before filling. If it goes as planned, when I remove the bottom of the can there will be string there to tie around a branch and fasten to the other end of the string. Am I making sense? Sometimes I make my own suet by using storebought lard since I don't cook often enough to accumulate much cooking grease.

I saw in Saturday's Flint Journal that UPPCO is planning to sell off land around Prickett Dam, Bond Falls and Victoria Falls. Of course, there is a lot of concern with what will happen to this land. It's still in the planning stages and people are hoping that the shoreline will be spared. The Prickett Lake area is one of my new favorite spots. I have pictures of it posted in my gallery, but don't know how to post them here.

Snowed on my way home from work yesterday. That changed today. Sun is out, but it is really cold out there.

By Paul Oesterle (Paulwebbtroll) on Tuesday, January 17, 2006 - 02:10 pm:

Hey Sur5ver! Be carefull what you ask for! You might get it!

By Paul Oesterle (Paulwebbtroll) on Tuesday, January 17, 2006 - 02:19 pm:

Hi Marsha! Do you have a twin sister by the name of Cora? Cooking grease doesn't accumulate very quickly around here either!!!! (Hope she stays busy with her scrapbooking the rest of the day and doesn't see this!!!)

By WishingIWasInDaUP (Sur5er) on Tuesday, January 17, 2006 - 02:34 pm:

Paul, Finally the Snow Gods are bestowing some of that wonderful white stuff upon us, from above :) Da Abbi gave the snow alert, just a few minutes ago. She was sitting in front of the patio door, just a whining up a storm, because she was so excited to see the snow falling.
Of course, she had to go outside and chase the snowflakes as they fell.

ILoveLucy2, Thanks for the great website...I now have it listed on my favorites. Anyone know how long it takes for an Eagle's egg to hatch?
Marsha, Neat idea for feeding the birdies.

By Marsha, Genesee/Aura (Marsha) on Tuesday, January 17, 2006 - 04:06 pm:

Incubation takes 32 to 36 days. Am I smart or what? Actually, I'm so smart I went to the bottom of the eaglecam page & clicked on Q & A!

Paul: My husband is out picking up a pizza. Now I have to figure out how to wring out the pepperoni so I'll accumulate some cooking grease for the birds!

By Michael Du Long (Mikie) on Tuesday, January 17, 2006 - 06:21 pm:

Japei, What is the meaning of the horse costume?

By It's Me (Yooper) on Wednesday, January 18, 2006 - 11:03 am:

Japei,

That costume is very strange!! lol1

By FRNash/PHX, AZ (Frnash) on Wednesday, January 18, 2006 - 11:27 am:

What costume? "That really is a horse, of course!" ... Isn't it? :-)
