Margaret, in order for a tsunami to occur, a large amount of water has to be displaced by something, I believe. A simple volcanic eruption can't just trigger one. I don't think a volcanic eruption would qualify unless it caused a large mass of earth to displace a large mass of water, rather quickly, from say a related earthquake that shifts a large section of crust (like what happened over here in Asia, recently-I'm very close to that spot right now) or a rather large chunk of a volcano falling into the sea.
Anyway, my geologic knowledge is fading fast these days, but I bet Capt Paul and Dr. Nat would have a better answer...

Last note on the ice volcanoes-
Until recently I thought they had only been noted on Lk. Superior, but I've found they have been spotted on several other planets/moons and on the shores of Lk. Erie. Google is a wonderful thing-type "ice volcanoes" and off you go around the solar system and the Great Lakes.
