I just read this article and thought about the talk of doing the snow dances last week. Check this article out. We did get a little snow during the night.

Oh... I would love to have that relic (Ski-Doo?) snowmobile! Made before high speed was a must!

By happyooper (Trigal) on Thursday, January 5, 2006 - 08:57 am:

Well, Bobbysgirl, come on over to our house. Our property is surrounded by a relic 'fence'. Old cars, trucks, and even a snowmobile just like that except it's blue. :)

By JanieT (Bobbysgirl) on Thursday, January 5, 2006 - 09:00 am:

happyooper, can my hubby come along? the cars and trucks would delite him!

By happyooper (Trigal) on Thursday, January 5, 2006 - 09:09 am:

Of course! However, since my house was a former bachelor pad for many years (make that a hunter's bachelor pad), the ancient vehicles were used for target practice. :(

By JanieT (Bobbysgirl) on Thursday, January 5, 2006 - 09:20 am:

just adds more character to them, ha!

By Fran in GA (Francesinga) on Thursday, January 5, 2006 - 11:03 am:

I realize this is not a note about the pictures but I wanted to tell you all that RCW's Dad, Grandpa Chester 100 yrs old passed away last evening with family at his side. He was a nice man and Dollar Bay has lost one of it oldest citizens.

By Charlotte, Mishawaka, IN (Charlotte61) on Thursday, January 5, 2006 - 12:16 pm:

Good afternoon from Mishawaka, IN. It is still dark and damp. At least it's not raining right now. Snow is predicted for later today.

RCW--My prayers are with you and your family at this difficult time.

By WishingIWasInDaUP (Sur5er) on Thursday, January 5, 2006 - 12:51 pm:

Thumbgardner, Thanks for the article :) So I guess that we aren't the only snow worshippers around, eh. Cool :) I guess I am still a kid at heart, because when it snows, I still get all excited...as long as I'm not in the middle of driving in it.
Ok Charlotte, if we don't get snow soon, I am gonna have to take a trip on the tollway...because it seems that whenever I take a road trip in the winter, it always snows...you know, on the really bad stretch of the tollway from Mishawaka, west. Lost track of the number of snow storms I got caught in, as soon as I hit Mishawaka on the way home. Lots of white knuckle drives. You don't realize how many hills Indiana has, until you are a slipping and a sliding down them...although in the summer, it seems like Indiana is as flat as a pancake.

RCW, sorry to hear about the passing of your dad. Our thoughts and prayers are with you, and your family, during this difficult time. (((((((((((((((HUGS)))))))))

By Charlotte, Mishawaka, IN (Charlotte61) on Thursday, January 5, 2006 - 01:59 pm:

Sur5er, A really strange this is happening at this moment---the sun is really trying to shine. Actually, it was shinning for 10 seconds or so.
That big orange ball is still up there.

I know that section of the toll road you are talking about. I've caught the white knuckle drive coming from the west back to Mishawaka.

The library is almost back together after the flood. We should be able to open it in another week. Hopefully this is the end of the MHS Library saga.

Surfer, your dance is working. It has started to snow here. Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow.

By Charlotte, Mishawaka, IN (Charlotte61) on Thursday, January 5, 2006 - 02:33 pm:

Sorry it should be Sur5er. Just to excited about the snow.

By WishingIWasInDaUP (Sur5er) on Thursday, January 5, 2006 - 04:30 pm:

Charlotte, Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow! It started snowing about 1pm on the lake...nothing much, but oh so much better than the rain :) Doing my happy snow dance now.

What may have started the snow: last night, I ran out of ink cartridges for my printer/scanner ... and it's a 60 mile round trip to the only store that carries the cartridges for it. So, I told hubby, I should try looking for another printer/scanner...something that I can get the cartridges for in town, so I don't have to make that long drive in the snow. Hubby just looked at me strange..."it's not going to snow, I think we have had our snow for the season".
I ignored him and purchased the new scanner/ printer, so I don't have to make that long trek in the snow. And waaaaaaaaaaa laaaaaaaaaa...the next day we get snow. Worked better than throwing an ice cube down the toilet, eh.

By WishingIWasInDaUP (Sur5er) on Thursday, January 5, 2006 - 04:37 pm:

The Indiana white knuckle drive that Charlotte and I are referring to: It's on the Indiana tollway and stretches from Porter County, all the way east to Mishawaka. This part of the tollway is infamous for white out conditions, because when the wind whips off of Lake Michigan, when it is snowing...it is awful. Hubby had a his semi come off of the pavement in one of these snow storms. And to top it off, you are slidding all over...can't see anything...and are rounding curves while either going down a hill or trying to get traction to get up a hill. I have actually seen them reroute people around this section...or close off sections of it. Yikes.
In all the miles I have driven, in numerous states, this rates number one for winter road hazard. Yikes.

By happyooper (Trigal) on Thursday, January 5, 2006 - 04:50 pm:

Yikes is right, Sur5er. You better come on up here, where you can have the snow and relatively safe driving (once there's snowbanks).

By Ms. Katie (Mskatie) on Thursday, January 5, 2006 - 05:28 pm:

Yikes is right, Sur5er and happyooper...my baby boy (son #1 soon age 48) drives OTR and you scare me. Must admit he mostly drives to Texas each week but occasionally to Detroit or east.

By allen philley (Allen) on Thursday, January 5, 2006 - 05:31 pm:

Love that Ski-Doo I still have the 1971 Ski- Doo Nordic that my dad bought. Way better in deep snow and hills than the new ones.

By WishingIWasInDaUP (Sur5er) on Thursday, January 5, 2006 - 06:28 pm:

Ms Katie...sorry, didn't mean to worry you.
Happyooper, you have that right...if we had some snowbanks to shield the road from the winds and blowing snow, it wouldn't be so bad. But around here, when it snows, it melts within days...if not hours...leaving no snowbanks. And that salt doesn't help the snowbank situation either ;)
Charlotte: The snow stopped...haven't seen any falling snow in about three hours now. :( Get that snow dance going again.

By JH (Thumbgardener) on Thursday, January 5, 2006 - 07:00 pm:

Sur5er, maybe we should all try the pajama trick, I've run out of ice cubes.

By WishingIWasInDaUP (Sur5er) on Thursday, January 5, 2006 - 08:11 pm:

Thumbgardener, I'm up for the pajama trick. Question: If we run around the kitchen table while in our pajamas, won't we spill our drinks?

By maija in Commerce Township (Maija) on Thursday, January 5, 2006 - 09:18 pm:

RCW:
My condolences on your loss. It is very difficult to lose a parent, but you will be consoled by your good memories.

By Charlotte, Mishawaka, IN (Charlotte61) on Thursday, January 5, 2006 - 10:08 pm:

Sur5er, I haven't seen much snow around here since mid afternoon. I'm trying to keep the snow dance going but......

What type printer did you get? I have an HP that I love. The laser I have at school is pretty good but it's at school.

Have you ever driven US 2 during the winter? That was the road where I had my first encounter with a white out. My oldest son was wrestling in LaPorte and I drove the mat maids over. I was never so happy to get home. Having your own with you is one thing but when it's someone elses!!!

By WishingIWasInDaUP (Sur5er) on Friday, January 6, 2006 - 12:44 am:

Charlotte, Still no snow on this end. Fortunately, I haven't had to drive route 2, during a snowstorm. You know, I am such a sissy, that I don't even drive home to Michigan...unless I really have to...during the snow season.
During the winter of 2000, I still had my house in Michigan...so I would drive out to our home in Indiana on the weekend...and drive home to Michigan on Sunday nights. Wouldn't you know it, that was the winter that Indiana had some of its worse blowing snow storms. Give me driving in the UP snow anyday ;)

By RCW (Rcw) on Friday, January 6, 2006 - 05:33 am:

Thanks Fran and those who made comments on the passing of our Dad.Its hard to imagine after all those years he isn't around anymore.Right to the end he had all his faculties and was a walking history lesson.

By Mary Lou Curtin (Marylou) on Friday, January 6, 2006 - 02:52 pm:

RCW much sympathy in the loss of your father. I know he was a longtime summer resident (& neighbor) at Bootjack. He will be missed. I remember reading once that everytime someone dies.....we lose a library. It is certainly true here with your dad.
