Looks like Jack Frost was busy with his artistry and Greta Jones was up with the birds to catch the sun making its rise, peaking in. Windows such as this here in the U.P. are a sure sign that it's cold outside and warm inside. It's something you don't see so often in homes now-a-days, since double pane windows have come to be more common, insulating us from that frigid winter air. Warmer is a good thing, but look at the beauty we miss because of it. That sunshine peaking through the frosty window makes it resemble a fancy, etched, crystal glass!

Beautiful, natural Art ... I recall many mornings the windows in the house that I grew up in had very similiar etchings. The house was built in appx. 1883 and luckily, the house is still standing. My niece and her husband now own it and are renovating. Thanks for another wonderful AM picture.

Oooooooooh, pretty. I remember single pane windows...and how a frosty window, would become a canvas for our 'artwork'... by 'carving' through the frost on the window with our fingernails. Tim, that's neat that your family home has been in the family for generations :)

What beautiful pictures! It does look like etched glass...sort of like ferns or even palm fronds.

This is so amazing. I'd forgotten how beautiful these patterns could be. The top one almost looks like etched metal.

Are you sure those aren't embroidered curtains you have hanging, Greta? ;) They are absolutely gorgeous.

Wow -- that's sunshine behind the frost. THAT is something unusual too!

I'm sure it has something to do with the angle of the Hydrogen atoms and Oxygen atoms in the water molecules as they crystalize, but I'd have to say I'm leaning toward the intelligent design argument on this one. Regardless of your own personal philosophy, there is certainly much beauty to be admired here.

Absolutely gorgeous! I remember it well but don't miss it in the least. It's nice to be reminded of days gone by though.

Thanks for bringing back memories, Greta! I too remember the days of the single pane windows and the beautiful pictures Jack Frost painted for us when we were children! I would like an enlargement of one of those photos to hang on the wall! Beautiful!

Mornin' U.P. How's everything up there? It's nice here in central MN. We're supposed to have March-like temps by the weekend. What a winter. The year 2005 was the warmest on record since the 1980's. Wonderful!
