Donna MacIntosh was sprung once again from her apartment with an excursion around the Copper Country with her friend Cindy (HI LOU!!). They did some driving around and spotted a Giant Rooster in their travels so of course Donna had to snap a picture of that one. He’s quite colorful and pretty handsome, too.

Their next stop was a first for both ladies, the Atlantic Mine Cemetery. Donna said neither of them had been there before and they were amazed at how well-kept it was. Everything was mowed and weed-whacked and looking absolutely beautiful. Check out that Bald Eagle stone...that’s really something unique. I bet there’s a story behind that stone.

A few floral photos to wrap up their excursion, Goldenrod in bloom and the flower pot in front of the Bonfire Restaurant. Donna said she has no idea what the yellow flower in the middle of the arrangement is, but it threw up some leaves in the midst of the plethora of other flowers. Pretty outstanding display!

Today’s video from Monte highlights the Copper Country Trail National Byway. It’s the 30th anniversary of this 47-mile stretch of road from Houghton to Copper Harbor on US-41, that traces routes used in the Keweenaw Peninsula at the peak of the Copper Boom. You can find more information about this National Byway here: Copper Country Trail

Turns out the eagle is in memory of Richard T. Ruotsala (1935-2006). It's a beautiful wooden hand carved headstone. I wonder who did it?

Glad you got sprung, Donna. Thanks
for bringing us these amazing
pictures. I love the ones from the
cemetery. It really does look well
kept. I can't say the same for the
Lake Linden one where my dad and
brother are, even though we've
paid for it. Very sad. I'll have
to try to make it to the Atlantic
Mine one. Cemeteries are a great
place to explore.

Nice set, but the giant rooster has me
confused this early in the morning.
A lot of love went into #2.
The rest of the pix and the video
are sweet.
Thanks for the outing, Donna.

Way cool! That rooster by that house was
huge...and colorful...pretty boy!

I have NEVER seen a cemetery so well kept. You are
right Deb, LL's sure isn't maintained like this
one. AND, you are right too, JBuck...that's the
name that goes down the front of the Eagle, but I
erased it...didn't want to "go public" with
it...that is such a beautiful "headstone".

There is so much yellow out there...the Goldenrod
is rampant and so is Tansy....it's
everywhere...And no clue on the yellow flower in
Bonfire's plant...and we noticed them in Houghton
or Hancock's plants too...with the big green
leaves that sprouted later.

It is so good to get out of here....THANK YOU
CINDY LOU!

The video is awesome...I love drone shots...Thanks
to whoever invented them!

Thanks all!

BTW, I call my apt my "Cell".

Those yellow and the pink flowers are known as
Supertunias. I call them mini petunias,

The taller yellow flowers in the large planter are
beautiful, but I
don't know what they are either.

By jbuck (Jbuck) on Monday, August 26, 2024 - 11:39 am:

My guess on the flower is a Canna.

It's all good Donna, it was easy enough to find on Find A Grave, so no secret.

Cool...thank you all!
