Jeff Dennis was doing what he does best, exploring around the Upper Peninsula and sharing whatever he finds. Today he takes us to Baraga County to check out the Powerhouse Falls on Falls River near L’Anse. This cascade flows over layered slate and is located close to the abandoned cement building which was the hydraulic powerhouse at one point in time, perhaps part of the Power Dam Falls which is upstream from Powerhouse Falls. The old building makes for a unique experience along with the falls. The parking area is just a mile from US-41, so it’s a quick and easy stop. Note, the waterfall is not handicap accessible, but is visible from your car. There is also a small park there where you can sit by the river and enjoy the water and sounds from the falls. This waterfall is going to be added to my ‘bucket list’ for sure.

In case you’d like a visual with sound, Jeff also recorded a video short while there. Make sure your volume is turned up so you get the full effect of the sights and sounds.

I've never heard of this place. I
guess it'll go my bucket list too.
Loved the sound of the running
falls, too.

I lived in Baraga for 15 years and never heard of
it!~

My bucket list includes making it downstairs to get
my mail!!

Does anyone remember when the Traprock River Bridge
was one lane only??

By Alex - UP-Goldwinger (Alex) on Monday, August 19, 2024 - 11:45 am:

I’ve heard of these falls, but only through
this website. Do the falls flow that intense
all year long or did Jeff just happen to
catch them on one of those heavy
flow days?
Nice set, but Jeff; a day without
Fritz is like a day without sunshine.

Nice pics and video too, would love to be there with my fly rod, bet there's some dandy trout lurking in there.
Alex, that reminded me.... a day without beer is like a day without . . . well, I guess I wouldn't know . . .

Good one, George! Took me a minute,
but I finally got it. And now I’m happier
than a pig in Schlitz.

I remember that bridge, Donna.

By Uncle Chuck (Unclechuck) on Monday, August 19, 2024 - 08:31 pm:

Beautiful pics and great video with sounds of the
rushing water.

Alex & George, your right guys, a day without Fritz
is like a day without, Vollwerth's Sauna Makkara!
It's time to "Head to the Mountains, of Bosch
Beer"!!!

Very nice pictures today, especially the last one.

Deb, Donna, Not Alex,
I've never heard of them either, although my excuse is much stronger than Donna's, LOL.

They ARE located on this map:
Waterfalls in the Keweenaw & UP Area

Alex, George, U.C.,
This was my DHH dorm room from 1972-74. (not suggesting underage drinking as this was of course all legit back then...for awhile.....'til everyone wised up.)
