The wintry blast we had last week was a bit of a shock for all of us, including the critters around the Copper Country. We start out with three photos from Deb Simons in Lake Linden, who said she had chuckled the night before when a friend had said that the sand truck had gone by, but then she woke up to this scene at her bird feeders and wasn’t laughing anymore. Deb said the Hairy Woodpecker came for a visit in the storm and had some lunch, then took off and flew right into the window, but thankfully he was fine and flew off right away. She said her cat was sitting at that window watching the birds when that happened and thought he had himself a tasty treat! Deb’s third shot is a hungry Bluejay that visited just before the storm hit town. She said the way it was going after the corn in the feeder, you’d think he was never going to see any food again. Maybe he knew the storm was coming and was stocking up.
Out in Traprock Valley, Jean Dessellier had some hungry friends visiting during the storm, too. I’m sure the deer appreciate the treats put out for them, especially during the first big snowfall of the year like this. It must be a shock to them, too, I would imagine.
Then on to Hubbell, where Bob Gilreath snapped a shot of his “resident grouse”. Bob said this guy is the reason there are a lot more grouse around his house and he often drums right behind their shed. It’s such a neat and unique sound to hear.
Jeff Dennis was up and out early to capture what he calls a “Sea Smoke Sunrise” the morning after the storm hit us. He shares a timelapse of the sun rising over the clouds on the horizon. Absolutely beautiful!

Thanks for sharing these, Mary. It was so great to be able to watch the birds again after a summer of no bird feeders due to the bears in the neighborhood. Now they're all over out there. And yep, I laughed at the sand truck being in Laurium, when we just had some flakes, lol. The snow was gone until this morning. It's ba-ack.
Nice set even though I’m not yet ready for it yet. I need time to ease into it, so please…offer me a glass of wine first and be gentle.

This is a closer picture of Bob Gilreath's resident grouse. He snapped this yesterday when he was setting up his game cam on his feeders. He said this guy came strolling out to see what he was up to. Pretty neat!
Nice shot! Perhaps Bob will be the next Bird Man and hand-feed Mr./Ms. Grouse.

That is so cool. Lucky Bob. There have been a few times that Ron's held his hand out and the birds have fed out of it. So cool when the animals aren't afraid of us.
