George C. Bailey and his wife Gail got to do something he said they’ve been wanting to do for several years. Their friends Stephen and Brenda made it happen when they hopped on board their boat for a cruise along the Portage Canal to Dreamland, in Bootjack. That was their first stop and the long-awaited visit by boat. Dreamland Restaurant & Bar was founded in 1913 by Norbert Sarazin and has been family owned and operated since, so you not only get a meal and drinks, but a dose of history there, too.

The bottom two photos were a bonus on the boating excursion for George and Gail...a close-up look at Quincy Dredge #2 from the water side. Located in Torch Lake near Mason on M-26, this is part of the mining history of the Copper Country. It was built in 1914 to reclaim stamp sand from the bottom of the lake for further processing of the copper ore. The Dredge operated until 1967 when it sank during the winter. By that time copper prices were low, so it wasn’t profitable to bring the Dredge out of retirement. It was designated as a Michigan State Historic Site in 1978.

We head further north for today’s video from Steve Brimm. He captured Lake Superior in one of her “talkative” moods and said he always finds she has something interesting to say. Have a listen to her beautiful sounds.

Cool video. I could almost feel the spray coming out of my computer's screen.

Way cool pics and I've seen old pics of Dreamland
on a dirt road, with stage coaches near
it...Dreamland is HUGE in Bootjack's history. So
are the Sarazin's.

Great pictures. It's such a great ride by
boat, so relaxing. We've never gotten out to
go eat, but it's still fun to see everything
from the lake side. We've never gone down to
the dredge. Maybe some day. I, too, love
listening to the lake talk.

What a great set! And it’s hard to describe my feelings watching
the video…it was a sight to behold.
