Joanne Furton was here in the Keweenaw to capture a few meteors, some gorgeous airglow and a plethora of stars in the night sky at the peak of the Perseid meteor shower recently. She commented that it was a fun couple of days here with her good friend, Lori to keep her company on the Eagle River beach while she snapped photos and enjoyed the show. Outstanding night views and a bonus shot of the Eagle Harbor Lighthouse shining brightly in the night. The blue glowing light reflecting on Lake Superior is the navigational beacon (buoy) at the entrance to Eagle Harbor. This shot actually looks more like a painting than a photograph. Absolutely beautiful!

Today’s video is also on a beach but on the eastern end of Lake Superior. We join Michigan Rocks, with special guests, geologist Nat and Paul Brandes, who identify Lake Superior rocks for us all. Join them for a walk down the beach with a geology lesson along the way. It’s just over 33 minutes, so sit back and enjoy the lesson about what those rocks along the shoreline really are.

Gorgeous pix and the video makes me want to wax lyrical:
“Here is one like sunrise
It's older than you know
It's still just lying there,
where some careless wave
Forgot it long ago.”
(The late David Crosby of CSN&Y)

That was an awesome day out with Nat and Paul. They really know
their stuff. Thanks, Nat and Paul!

It's very rare that I watch the video before
doing anything else, but today I did. I
spend a lot of time looking at the rocks on
the shores of Superior, so this was
interesting to me. Was happy to get to see
Nat and Paul at Sandy Bottom in $ Bay
because we didn't get together any other
time while they were here. Nice job on the
video, guys.

These pictures are so stunning! I'm so
jealous. My favorite is the Eagle Harbor
lighthouse one. It is amazing!!!

What a great post today! The night sky and lighthouse with the Perseid meteor shower pictures are fantastic! And often while watching Michigan Rocks and there's a 'mystery' rock, i think "wish Capt. Paul and Dr. Nat were there to explain what it was!" So it was great to see all these type rocks explained in detail by the experts. Now if i could just remember all of it........

Outstanding Pics!! Informative video and the sounds
of the waves are great too!

Hey guys,

Sorry for not being able to respond yesterday, but since we've been back to the tropics, it has been a royal "you-know-what" show. Between opening week of school, catching up with everything from being gone a month, and nearly having my car stolen in Dallas, it's been hectic to say the least.

I was wondering if you'd post that video Mary, since we figured it would be quite useful for the PastyCam folks. Don't let Rob fool you; he knows his stuff as well. It is always a pleasure to spend a day on the lakeshore with Rob and Nancy, even with me having a serious blowout in my water shoes.....
