Bob Gilreah and his wife Liz, recently were out doing a bit of camping. Their first night was spent at Pete’s Lake Campground, in the Hiawatha National Forest. Located about 10 miles south of Munising, this campground has 41 sites, all spacious, forested and private, as you can see from Bob’s first photo. It’s surrounded by many lakes and besides camping, it offers hiking, fishing, swimming, boating and picnicking opportunities. Bob says this is the difference between camping in a national forest versus a state park campground. Looks quite peaceful and quiet.

Well, maybe not completely quiet... Bob recorded a video of the loons by the lake. Make sure your volume is turned up for this one. How is that for relaxing sounds?

Beautiful set especially the tranquil video!
It took me back sixty
years ago to the cabin we went to on Sand Lake south of
Shingleton.

Very nice and tranquil. I especially loved
listening to the loons.

What a beautiful site! People long for camping sites on big water, but you are often right on top of the next camper. But a place like this on a large wooded site on a nice lake is my idea of perfect! And the loons! The loons!!!

Simply beautiful!

There was an article in last Sunday's paper
recommending camping in national forest campgrounds
instead of National Parks. The article said it was
easier and cheaper to get a campsite in a national
forest and that you would still generally be within
driving distance of the National Park you were
interested in.

Anyway, it looks like a nice campsite.

Hey, Uncle Chuck...you doing ok??

By Uncle Chuck (Unclechuck) on Tuesday, August 22, 2023 - 08:39 pm:

Absolutely beautiful and nice setup on your rig
too, Bob!! Rustic camping and you have the right
truck and camper to do it. The Loons sound
fantastic as well.

Feeling good Donna, just waiting for the 48 hour
monitor results and my next bloodwork
instructions. Thanks for asking. Yearly tests
start mid September.

Vic's mom is currently recovering from her fall in
early August and living with us. Her dad is in
Rehab and doing quite well too. Need to get them
both strong enough to get back to their condo, but
I have might doubts if they're ever going to be
able to live alone again.

My cousins are enjoying the Keweenaw and Marty and
I hope to get up there before December and have a
little fun too. Oh yeah I have taken a deposit on
my truck and RV and plan to revisit looking at a
motorhome by next Spring. We'll see how things go
with my health and Vic's folks, no decision needs
to be made now for sure. Gotta be honest... an
AirBnB with a washer and dryer and a regular,
powerful shower sounds pretty nice lol!!

Have a great rest of the week Pasty Fam!!
