We started the week with a Keweenaw tour courtesy of Deb Simons and we’re ending the week with another stop along the way from Deb. This time we’re at Esrey Park, between Eagle Harbor and Copper Harbor, a favorite of mine. It’s a great place to stop and spend some time, climb the steps to the top of the rock wall for some great views of Lake Superior and Agate Harbor. It’s also the perfect place to have a picnic, with everything you need for an enjoyable afternoon. That’s just what Deb and her family did there...no picnic that day, but they enjoyed exploring around and taking in the views of Lake Superior while Deb captured the uniqueness of the park quite well. It really doesn’t get much better than this, in my opinion. I’ve even heard that a few agates have been found here, although I have never had the luck of finding any myself in this spot.
Last week we visited 14 Mile Point Lighthouse with Jeff Dennis and since then found a video from the Restless Viking that he recorded while touring the grounds. A neat follow-up to a previous subject.

Beautiful shots, Deb! These days it makes you wonder how the rule markers allow steps without railings and no guardrails at the top, etc, etc, etc! LOL!!
Sure would like to see that lighthouse in person, and what a shame someone's carelessness caused it to burn. They had a nice calm day to get there too.
UC, just saw your posts from yesterday. Sorry to see you're having challenges in addition to your in-laws'. We'll add you to our prayers that the docs can correct things without more surgery. Take care of yourself!

We love this spot. Last week we took our son and daughter-in-law (though she's more like a daughter to us) there, and that was these pictures. And this week we took our oldest granddaughter there to get pictures and video of Superior's fury. We've seen much better, of course, but she was totally impressed. We took her all over the place to as many places that two days will allow. I know she was tired after the 2nd day because we were gone for hours. This place amazed her at the beauty of it all and the gorgeous views. And the waves were rocking the lakeshore so it was wonderful. She ate her first huckleberry there. She said everywhere we took her there was nothing but lake forever. She's just in awe of our corner of the world. Smart girl.

Forgot to add to jbuck that I was wishing for a railing, lol. These steps are so uneven that, with my bad knee, I'll admit that it scares me a little. And that washtub yesterday, with the howling wind, had me a little nervous also. But what wave action there. So impressive. Do much to see and do there's just not enough time.

Nice pics Deb.
Coming DOWN those steps is the hardest for me. I've almost fallen a couple of times. But Esrey is always a stop for me.
A lot of people miss this section of M-26 as they go up to Mt. Brockway. In addition to the Washtub there is also Hebard Park that is a good stop with a picnic table almost right on the water. Also, that part of the highway is a great roller coaster ride (especially if you speed up a bit).
U.C., My resting heart rate is in the low 50's and often dips into the high 40's. My cardiologist never seems worried. Maybe I should be seeing yours?

D.A., if we go to the mountain, which isn't often because the view from Esrey is good enough for us, then we always come back the other way so we don't miss Esrey, the Washtub, Silver River Falls, and even the picnic place you mentioned. I love this drive and wouldn't miss it for anything. It's been fun showing my family my favorite spots. And to see the way they appreciate them.

Deb,
I seem to always run of time. As it's getting dark I jump onto 41, then speed back as there's a Greek pizza, with some added sausage, waiting for me at the Ambassador Lounge.

Or I'm in a hurry to get to any one of the few restaurants that carry Lake Trout, when available. The rush is so I can get there before they run out. White Fish is OK... but it's not Lake Trout.
This one is from close by, at the Harbor Haus: (plus they have great deserts although the Chocolate Souffle was unfortunately dropped... pun intended)

Nummy, The Hut has terrific Lake Trout. They were out when I went for my birthday so I had the Walleye. I have to say, it was fabulous! I love fish! At the Ambassador I love the ravioli.

I did not know about The Hut carrying fresh fish, thanks.
Walleye indeed!
Walleye is better than Lake Trout (most definitely the freshwater GOAT, but there are a few Hawaiian fish I love)
I do not see much Walleye in the U.P. except in grocery stores. I do see it a lot in northern Wisconsin (on my way UP).

Could someone please pass the napkins…lots of napkins? That and a finger bowl…I don’t wish to seem uncouth.
