Lake of the Clouds in the Ontonagon area is one of the most beautiful spots in the Upper Peninsula. On this day that Chuck Paulson (a.k.a. Uncle Chuck) and his bride, Vicki visited, there was not a cloud in the sky, so no reflections into the Lake of the Clouds, but there was still much beauty to behold.

The sign in the third photo reminds us all that US 45 is 1300 miles long and starts there in Ontonagon, ending in Mobile, Alabama, which means it actually connects folks from Lake Superior to the Gulf of Mexico.

That photo of Finnigan (Finn for short) is a fun shot. Chuck said he normally rides on the center armrest, but on this drive he decided to sit on Vic’s lap so the rear view mirror didn’t block his view. It was the first time he had done this and he seems to be thoroughly enjoying the ride.

Last, but not least, on another day, Uncle Chuck made it to the top of Mt. Arvon, which is the highest point in Michigan at 1979.238 feet.

Now we head over the Vermillion Point, near Paradise, with Michigan Rocks and Sam to search for syenite rocks with fluorescent sodalite, sometimes called "Yooperlites". They find a few, as well as some other fluorescent things.

I didn't realize there was a highway other
than 41 that stretched that far. We'll maybe
have to take 45 to Mobile when we head to
the Gulf next year.
