When Nancy Haun heads out on an adventure, you can be sure she’ll be coming back with some interesting photos, off the beaten path. The path she snapped these photos on is in the Baraga and L’Anse area. She starts out with Third Bridge. I asked Nancy why it was named Third Bridge and she said there were three bridges over this river, which is actually the waterway as it flows into the Head of Keweenaw Bay.
Nancy said the remaining photos are the convergence of Six Mile Creek, Menge Creek, Hazel Creek and several other waterways that empty into the head of Keweenaw Bay, which makes for many photo opportunities. You can capture a number of different waterfowl, an eagles nest can be seen from US41, Otters, and even a Moose was seen here about 10 years ago! Menge Creek Rd. was probably part of the Lac Vieux Desert trail at one time followed by Natives, Trappers, Travelers, Bishop Baraga, and many others who had to make the trip from the Keweenaw Bay to Wisconsin. It’s a great waterway, with so many beautiful scenes of a wetland.
We head south of L’Anse for today’s video hike on the North Country Trail to Canyon Falls and then to the Plumbago Creek. Guess you could call us computer chair hikers.

Hello to all and a soon to arrive Happy New Year.
The Third Bridge is old US-41 at the South end of Keweenaw Bay. That location was dangerous winter driving back in the 50s and 60s.
Is the house still there and occupied, or did the State take over the entire narrow peninsula?
