The archive look-back today, starts in 2014, with a photo from Emma Stout. She stopped there briefly to snap some photos with the sun shining on the little shanty town of fishing shacks. Quite the variety in designs for these fish catching shelters, some shaped like tepees, others just square and boxy.
We move ahead a couple years, to 2016, with Chad Johnson as the photographer. He was at Calumet Waterworks Park taking in some good splashes from Lake Superior. Interesting that there’s ice, then open water, then further out more ice.
Our current photo today, was also snapped by Chad Johnson, this time he was in Houghton, looking across the frozen Portage Canal at Hancock and the Quincy Hill. With the sun shining on the white snow, everything seems so bright.
We’re going driving around several of the side streets in Hancock, today. This drive and the snow you’ll see was from just about a year ago. Snow, snow and more snow.

The start of the video was like an amusement park ride...gave my gut the willies.
