The archives remind us today, that Heikinpäivä activities are taking place this week, with the biggest day of events this coming Saturday. The Heikinpäivä Polar Bear photo from 2007, was snapped by Z-Man. I’m thinking being dressed in that furry suit would keep you a bit warmer than the folks in swimsuits getting ready for the Polar Bear Dive.

Back in 2013, Robert C. Wetton (RIP) captured the second photo in his back yard, where they fed the deer. This one looks a little hesitant, slowly checking out what kind of treats may be in that feed dish.

Bears and deer, oh my...don’t worry though, as Brenda Leigh snapped some smaller creatures this past week, while they were feeding at her backyard feeder. Those are male Pine Grosbeaks. With those beautiful rosy red colored feathers, they really stand out.

In contrast to the males, the female Grosbeaks are yellow/gray, you can see the difference in today’s video. There’s even one point where the female chases the males off the feeder. Guess she didn’t feel like sharing.
