Some folks look at winter as a big job, clearing the snow and shoveling, others look at it as a different way to have fun here in the Copper Country. Our archive and current photos touch on both today. We start out with the “work” part of winter, joining Bob Gilreath as he snowblows his driveway back in 2010.

The next archive shot was snapped by Brenda Leigh in 2015. She was on a snowshoe adventure of the Whitefish Bay Scenic Byway at Pendills Creek. This creek flows under the small bridge/walkway you see here. The bridge also leads down to Lake Superior after crossing the creek, complete with a bench there to sit and enjoy the view of the Big Lake from the shore, weather permitting of course.

We’re snowshoeing in our current photo, too. We join Judy Byykkonen with her friends at the Swedetown trails in Calumet. There are some trails that are lit at night or you can wear a headlight and easily find your way along the snowshoe trails. How neat to be out there at night.

So much snowshoe talk, that this video from the winter of 2018 fits perfect for today. Jason Asselin is taking us on a winter walk in to see the Snowshoe Priest Shrine between Baraga and L’Anse. Bishop Baraga spent his time in this area snowshoeing to reach the people across the U.P. in the 1800’s, from Sault Ste. Marie to Copper Harbor and in between.

Beautiful night time snowshoe shot!

The storm has come and gone, and while not a bust by
any means, it didn't live up to the hype. Hope
that's true of the temps to come in the next couple
days too.
