We start our archive look-back in Houghton, today, with John Sturos back in 2008. This was the view he had out his office window then and you can see that the canal was already freezing over that year. Currently, it just barely has a thin sheet of ice, due to warmer temperatures lately.
In 2012, we had been experiencing some warmers temperatures, also, when Emma Stout captured the second archive shot. It shows the sun setting on some “mushy” looking shoreline ice near her home in Dollar Bay.
The following year, in 2013, Santa arrived to visit with the children in the Hubbell area to what looks like plenty of snow. Check out the snowbank to the right of St. Nicholas. So much excitement for the kiddos waiting to visit with Santa when the firetruck delivers him to the Community Building for fun activities that day.
There are always plenty of entertaining things going on around the U.P. this time of year, like the Christmas Tree Lighting in Escanaba back in 2013. Get out and enjoy the season!
