Winter brings its own beauty each year. Today’s archive and current photo show that beauty off quite well, starting in 2001, with a shot taken by Dan Urbanski. The water here had coated the tree branch with a clear icy coating and hanging icicles below.
Then in 2003, Donn de Yampert found an interesting art form near the Gravrot River (between Freda and Misery Bay). I'm curious as to how those icicles froze, pointing up in the air? Then some of them are hanging down like the usual ice formation. Must have been a cold windy day for that to happen.
Michael Musiel was on the shores of Lake Superior in 2010, showing one of her more frigid looks. With the waves splashing and the temperatures freezing, it didn't take long for a snowy and icy coating to cover the shoreline rocks.
To complete our interesting ice and snow formations, Kathy Archambeau shares a photo she snapped of the snow sliding off their metal roof, looking all lacy as it hangs over the eaves. Pretty fancy winter decorations nature gives us at times.
Speaking of snow sliding off a metal roof, we have a video of a cabin roof slowly unloading here today. Watch for it, slowly at first, then... WHOOSH... down it goes!

Looks like you're right Mary ~ a VERY windy day to make ice cycles like that! Have never seen anything like the 2018 picture.

Very unusual and interesting ice formations.
I think I can tie together today's roof lines with yesterday's bustling cityscape. The following picture, I took this past October, is a different view of the Library Bar and surrounding buildings than was shown yesterday. The interesting historical story revolves around that white piece of chimney. The chimney used to be much taller. The missing section was brought down by the same storm that sank the Edmund Fitzgerald in November of 1975. The white section indicates the remaining section that was repaired. My apartment was that one on the near corner on the 3rd floor. The girls that lived above us on the 4th floor were fortunate to not be home at the time as their living room was filled with a literal ton of bricks.
Excellent picture showing how you could step out your window onto the Library's roof! Did they have open air dining back then? LOL!
Yes, you'd have to say Someone was looking out for those girls that night.

Man, UC, that's a bummer! Here's hoping it sounds a lot worse than it is and you'll recover quickly. Take care of yourself!

If the behavior of 12 and 13 year old boys was handled with the same standards of mental health as we do for adults, many of them would be locked up in institutions for the criminally insane.
jbuck, From time to time we'd take out the lawn chairs and partake of some beverages.

UC...I broke an old crown in the back and I had it yanked, I don't miss it a bit. You should do the same and we'll start calling you "Leon Spinks".

Almost 2am Saturday morning and still no cam notes for Friday. Is this this first time the midnight deadline has been missed in 20 years?

Remember to forget the things that made you sad... ...but don't forget to remember the things that made you glad. Lets the second 20 year streak begin!

john mich (Johnofmi),
I was thinking the same thing. Think there was one other time a couple years ago but not this late. Hope everything is ok in the CC.
