Usually by mid December, we have snow here in the Keweenaw...our 2003 photo snapped by Donn de Yampert shows a snowy Houghton, including the old Daily Mining Gazette building with the painted on advertisement for the daily newspaper.

Robert C. Wetton’s (RIP) 2008 photo of the traffic in downtown Hancock illustrates wet streets and snowy sidewalks that year, too. Pretty with the Christmas decorations lit UP.

But then we arrive in Lake Linden in 2015 with Allan Hoffman and there’s not a snowflake to be found. He took advantage of the warm, snowless weather to set up his Frosty the Snowman decoration. Hope ole’ Frosty didn’t melt away!

The Keweenaw Convention and Visitor’s Bureau published a nice video in 2016, highlighting all the winter activities available during the snowy months here in the Copper Country. Check it out, you might find something that draws you to our U.P. winter months for a visit.

F.D. ~

You're ahead of us in the Christmas decorating and
time's a-wastin'!

Always enjoy the Wintry village scenes - looks like
Frosty needs some snow!

Growing up in our neck of the woods, the only "Tanning Parlor" around was the woodshed.

The 2003 photo almost caught the corner of my bustling downtown apartment that I had in 1975-76. I could step through the living room bay window onto the roof of the original Library Bar, an establishment I visited probably far too frequently. But things were indeed bustling, even back then.

"So we tanned his hide when he died, Clyde
And that's it hangin' on the shed!
Altogether now!"
