Our three archive photos and the current shot, all have an element of peace in them for the coming holiday season. We start with a photo taken by Keith Knighton in 2004 near the Quincy Mine property. The craftsmanship back in the mining days is fascinating to me, building something so tall and straight, which are still standing years later. They provide a peaceful reminder of our copper mining history and a picturesque focal point.
Winter in the Keweenaw is the perfect time to put another log on the fire and enjoy the warmth and glow. Peg Hardt had the fire stoked in 2010, the candles lit and probably has some quiet music playing in the background. A great way to de-stress after a busy workweek.
Back in 2011, Judy Byykkonen looked out her window and saw the result of the “Lake Effect Snow” that accumulated overnight. There's something about snow covering the branches and most everything else in sight, that catches your attention and pleases your senses. For one thing, it makes everything look bright and clean and quiets your surroundings.
Our current photo was found on the Cedar Bay – UP Michigan Facebook page and what a beauty it is. The still water of the Portage Canal, the mirrored reflection of Hancock across the way, just a calming, quiet, peaceful scene... period.
James Wallace brings us a little over a minute of peacefulness in the busy rush of December preparations, parties and celebrations. Put your feet up and enjoy a respite from the busyness.
