In case you haven’t noticed, the archives have been filled with a number of snowy shots this time of year, which means that here UP North, by the end of November, we more often than not have snow on the ground. Especially in the higher elevations, like Calumet, in our 2001 photo from Alicia Marshall. Of note in this shot is the raised wooden walkway that folks in Calumet/Laurium often put up over the sidewalk to their homes, so it’s easier to shovel the snow off, making a path to the house.

Danielle Mahoney found some snowy steps when she made a stop at the Cut River Bridge on US2. Our family has stopped there a number of times and made the trek down those 231 steps to Lake Michigan and then up again, but I’m not sure I’d want to try it when they’re snow covered and slippery.

More snow laden clouds in the archives back in 2013. Donna MacIntosh had been outdoors, snapping some wintry shots and captured this one. It looks like the snow clouds are trying to obliterate the sun from our view. Fortunately, it glows enough to illuminate the bare branches against the cloud cover.

Sharon Bodenus found some sunshine in our current shot for today. Check out those late in the day sun rays illuminating McCarty’s Cove and the Marquette Lighthouse. We had a few warmer days with rain over the weekend, so much of the snowcover we had melted away. No worry for the snow lovers, though, the ground is still white and more is on the way. Today’s video treat has more sun rays, these occurred in the early morning over Lake Superior and the Porcupine Mountains, at Little Girl’s Point in November, 2014.

Spectacular, especially 2018! Nice video, but should have been a wee bit slower.

Careful indeed. While the low temps for the U.P. are going to be 15 to 20 degrees tonight, they will be in the single digits here in northwest Illinois. At this rate the Mississippi River by me will be frozen over soon.

We got 14 inches Sunday night/Monday morning and it was almost all the wet, heavy stuff. Plus, it was on top of 1/2 inch of ice storm. It was a lot of action for just a few hours around here. I finally got my 2nd vehicle dug out tonight.

I noticed they even named this winter storm. It was called Bruce. Since when did we start naming winter storms? Next thing you know they'll be naming tornadoes. I haven't looked up the actual results but with the north winds they were predicting 18 to 20 foot waves for Chicago.

Hmmmm, i have a cousin named Bruce in Illinois,
wonder if he pulled some strings?
