Back in 2003, the top photo from Doug Smith appeared on the Pasty Cam and there was no doubt that we would be having a white Thanksgiving that year. I have no clue how much snow we had already then, but that picture looks more like mid-winter, than the end of November.
Then in 2008, E. Neil Harri was driving by Great Sand Bay, when he spotted something out in the water. Stopping to investigate, he found a wet-suit clad individual getting ready to do some cold weather surfing. The circle on the photo shows him out there in the water.
Our 2015 archive shot was taken by Amy Kleine who has a place out at Rice Lake. With camera in hand, she headed out to capture the beginnings of winter around the lake. Her morning shot is quite the beauty, you can almost hear the quiet as the day begins with the blanket of snow on the ground.
The current photo for today is out at Big Traverse, where Barbara Bouwkamp has a cottage and gets to enjoy views like this, when even for just the briefest moment the sky and Lake Superior are the bluest they can be. But see those clouds hovering? In another moment the blue sky is gone and the Big Lake can turn gray looking. Enjoy the beauty, however it comes.
Jeff Dennis made a compilation of photos he took of his family back in 2015, when they made a snowmobile run along the shores of Big Traverse and Little Traverse, too. It shows the blue skies, gray skies, sunshine and beauty along the way. Fun song, too. The Snowmobile, by Stompin’ Tom Connors.
