What a fun start to the archive shots today... that’s Jon Hopper’s brother-in-law, Alex taking aim at him back in 2002. He sure has an impish grin and the look on his face says how much he’s enjoying this moment before smacking Jon with a snowball.
The next photo comes from Tim Minich, taken in 2010. This is such a beautiful scene, it makes it easier to accept when the snow starts here in the Keweenaw. I don't mind the snow, I just don't like it to start too early and stick around for 6 months at a time.
These guys who surf Lake Superior in the midst of a winter storm just amaze me. This surfer was captured by Bill Thompson back in 2015, in the midst of cold temperatures and wind that makes it that much colder. I would think even with a wet suit on, it must be chilly out there riding those waves, but exhilarating at the same time. Cowabunga!!
Our video today is current footage from six days ago, filmed by SKN Marquette during the winter storm we were having last weekend. Some chilly views of the old Coast Guard Lighthouse, waves breaking over the Presque Isle breakwall, and Lake Superior surfers in Marquette, Michigan.

Fondly remembering the residents at Still Waters in the 2008 photo.
