The Quincy Shafthouse high above Hancock is such a remarkable icon of the mining era, when pasties were a way of life for the miners. Fifteen years ago Michael Falik gave us a glimpse down under, and a few years later Pauline Trabert took us up the next level to explore behind the scenes. Thanks also to Casey Coolich for the vintage train that shuttled copper to the smelter down the hill.

Side note: Often this time of year we invite you to the Ghost Train & Haunted House at Houghton County Historical Society, but due to flood damage from back in the summer it was cancelled this year. According to their website they're hoping to have it all restored in time for Santa's arrival, little more than a month from now. How this year has flown!

Have a good week :o)
