We’re almost to the end of October, which also means just about the end of the color season. You can still find a few leaves hanging on here and there, but for the most part the colors around the Keweenaw have faded. That’s the beauty of the Pasty Cam, though, as we can still visit photos from just a week or two and make Fall last just a little longer. We start off our archive shots, with one from John Dee, from the days when he lived in Lake Linden and would take his pups for a walk on the snowmobile trail above town. That’s quite the color the day he was there in 2000.

Jeff Massie found a little color hanging on back in 2009 near the Marquette Harbor Lighthouse, too. That’s McCarty’s Cove and is one of the more popular beaches in the Marquette area. I can see why with the nice beach sand and the view of the Harbor and the Lighthouse.

Back in 2016, Jeff Dennis and his family took advantage of the Mt. Ripley Ski Lift Fall Tours and what a grand view toward Houghton they had from the top. You can see up past the Bluffs, Walmart and the Copper Country Mall...WOW! The colors were more of a subdued, burnt hue, with all the bright reds and oranges faded away by then.

To compliment the 2016 Houghton view, we have a recent photo looking from Houghton toward Hancock and Quincy Hill, taken by Don Afman on his visit to the Copper Country just a week or so ago. Again, quite the view, with a bit more of the reds still there on the trees, but what I really like is the glimpse of the buildings in Hancock at the very bottom of the photo, then you scan up and there’s the Quincy Mine Shaft.

Staying in line with the last two photos, our video today takes us on a Fall tour over the Portage Canal, with views of Houghton, Hancock, Ripley and of course over the Lift Bridge, too, captured by NJ Productions.

Having lived in Houghton during all my time in residence in the UP, I guess I'm always looking for unique compositions of the scenery that I most often observed on a daily basis. I think it's to bring back or retain the memories. The featured photo was taken using a telephoto lens located in the Econofoods parking lot.

Another favorite shooting location is almost anywhere on Bridge Street. This shot is from a little further up, taken by the Houghton Elementary School on Military Rd.
