We start out our archive look-back today with a snowy scene from 2002, snapped by Dan Strieter. There was quite the snowfall that weekend 16 years ago, Dan was at his hunting camp in the Baraga area, with his dog and I’m assuming his son. I like how the fall leaves are peeking out of the snow.
Jumping ahead two years, we have a shot of the Lake Linden Water Tower. Carl Kiilunen (RIP) took this one in 2004. It sits atop Fourth Street in town and sure has some pretty colors surrounding it there.
Many folks enjoy camping in the Fall, like Alicia Reed back in 2012. This was a collection of the camping kids of the group who piled up some fallen leaves to play in. It must have been a warmer October that year, because some of the kids are in shirtsleeves. You’d be shivering and quite damp this year.
Speaking of shivering this year, Judy Byykkonen captured this scene this past week when we got a bit of snow. It didn’t last long and was a nice reprieve from all the rain that caused some minor flooding in places again. And it did make the colors in Laurium stand out nicely. Judy’s pups didn’t seem to mind it, either.
Today’s video is a short one. Made by Nathan Miller a year ago this month. Make sure you watch all 20 seconds. Here’s what Nathan said about the set-up that day: 50+ mph winds. 20'+ waves. Pouring rain. 35°F temperatures. Taken at McLain State Park in the Keweenaw. I'm about 50' out and 20' above from the shoreline in this video. WOW!
